I just purchased my first boat with an outdrive..(1995 22 ft. scarab) and the first trip out I burned up the drive coupler in less than a mile.. I replaced the coupler and the bearing, the previous owner had just had it done at a marina, and am still smelling rubber burning from the engine compartment.. I used an alignment tool and replaced it just like a local boat shop said, tighten the rear mount bolts up with the tool sliding eaisly back and fourth, then adjust the front and lock it into place..Any ideas? 350 magnum with an Alpha one

transom or stingers are bad. would bet money on it. check for rotten wood.

I took the boat out with a new drive coupler and sure enough I made it about 1 mile again and lost it again.. I had a buddy to follow me and he could see the transom moving as we were riding.. Now the engine is out to have the transom replaced and it will get a LT-1 that I have beefed up a little..
Thanks...
