I'm getting ready to reassemble my pump and want to remove all of the old grease from around the thrust bearing housing.
Also would it hurt the new graphite packing to grease them prior to install?
Thanks

Use WD-40 first to remove all the nasty stuff. Sounds wierd but really works. Then final cleaning with Simple green. Saves lots of time.

I like to put a cup of liquid laundry detergent in the bilge before I put her in the water. That way when the water and the detergent slosh around it breaks down the grease and pumps right out the bilge pump. Keeps that pump clean and makes her smell pretty to. :)

wipe any gobs of grease out with some disposable rags and then Simple Green. Works really good. :D

I like that orange stuff made by Zep. Also has a nice smell to it.
