Does anyone have any good ideas of how to get the water temp up to a suitable degree?I have a 3/4 inch pump, cam driven and Rewarder thru transome headers and using 1/8 inch fittings to dump water thru the collector and the same size thru the primary injector water lines. The problem is the engine is only running around 130 degrees temp. Should I tap some of the water away from the pump before it goes into the engine thus slowing down the flow of water? And how much pressure does a pump actually put on the block. Any info is welcome, RCM

Restrict the outgoing water is one way. Some guys also cut some of the water pump impellor blades off (opposite sides). Just don't restrict the inlet.

Don't know if this will help but this is how I have mine!. I have a #12 from the pickup to the oil cooler, #12 to the pump, #8 to the motor, two #8 outlet to a juction block and one #8 dump!. At cruising speed I my temp is 170 and when I run hard, it get's up to 190 max!...

Gofastracer, I have about the same hook up as you but my dump lines are 1/8 inch that should really heat up but it doesn`t. Do you or anyone else know how much to cut off the impeller blades? RCM

Wow 1/8 inch, those are vacuum lines, it's a wonder you ain't blowing out gaskets!. Don't ruin your impeller, that don't work all that will do is prevent you from pumping water at idle, when you're moving you don't even need a pump so cutting off impeller blades won't help. I tryed that before and it costed me an impeller!.. eek!

The way I've done it for years is to run a 160 thermostat with a 1/4"-5/16" hole drilled in it. I get enough flow at idle so as not to burn up the exhaust hoses. Our engine idles around 125 degrees and runs around 160 running at speed. You might want to check your water presser, but we've never had a problem. Our water in the lakes here in Montana are around 60-70 degrees.

If you treat it like a mechanical Fuel Pump Injection system, like on an Enderle with a pump it is quite simple. Pickup to Pump, feed the motor what it wants by Enderle Jets in the two inlets where the water pump inlets are (usually .150 to .250) and outlet to a dump and feed to your Headers the same way with jets in the male coupler to the header lines. This way avoids pressure build up in the block that will blow gaskets.

Does the water go through the headers first to pre-heat? I've never seen 1/8 dumps.

Also you might want to go to a 1/2 inch pump.

why don't you run a T-STAT? if you need pointers on how to set one up I will be glad to help out the other way is to regulate the water coming into the motor with a ball valve. you should never regulate the out going water you can blow head gaskets that way.

The ball valve on the inlet side sounds like a good idea.Another way is to put a 1/2" one way check valve between your pick-up and water pump. It does restrict some flow, plus you get an instant flow of water to your rubber thru hull hoses even after days on the trailer. Your engine stays full all the time.

This setup works sweet. Header water comes from the back of the blower manifold. I also mounted a pressure gage there. The outlet valves control overall pressure. the bypass is left wide open, and the pump outlet is throttled back slightly. I can get any temp I want, this picture runs at 130 degrees and about 8 lbs. pressure. I have found that the inlet hose needs to be -10 or -12.

Which is more important? Water temp or oil temp?
I thought water temp was, but was told that oil temp today.
