One of the old OFIXCO flatbottoms is owned by a friend of mine here in Mississippi. As a matter of fact, it will run the 10 sec. class at Evansville, Ill. this weekend. Its a S.L.D.B.A. race and i`ll be running the same class also. Sure hope we do`nt pair up against him. So that means one of the boats is still alive and running.

The driver of the alcohol hydro, Bill Hartman, wrote a column for ***boat he called the "The Outside Lane". Unfortunately, He died driving that that boat in the late 80's. I believe the alcohol flat also crashed and I don't recall hearing much of Ofixco after that.

Bill crashed on July 6, 1986 here in Waco. Me and my dad dismantled what was left of the TAH and I have the right side of the boat on the wall of my shop.
The Ofixco team was disbanded at that point, as Bill was the only Ofixco boat running at that point.
Melvin Benge also crashed the BGF here in Waco a couple of years before Bill's crash.
The Ofixco team was not only made up of drag boats, but Mr. Stevens also sponsored flat-track motorcycles and Outlaw Sprint Cars. His Sprint car was driven by Ron Shuman for several years.
There is some Ofixco memorabilia available around. Here is a link to one on ebay right now....

Taylormanss, The boat now has what used to be a pretty paint job. (its mostly black with multi colored stripes) You can still see orange thru a few scratches. It won 2nd place in the M/E class this past weekend at Evansville Il.
