No shit!! Ive been going there 20 years and have never seen one.
I saw my 1st turtle at the southern sandbar in parker last year.. It actually scared the shit out of me as I was wading waste deep in the water and saw this big dark disc under the water swimmng straight for me. It brushed me as it went by and I got a real good look at it. I do'nt know if it was 30lbs, but it was a big SOB..
So yes it's possible, although before last year I would've never believed it.

Saw one in late June...we were out early wakeboarding in front of Havasu Landing mid-week. Actually hooked into one last year fishing off the long pier at Mesquite Bay. A buddy saw one on the embankment at the back end of Gene's Wash Cove a few years ago. They are out there...

You might have seen the one that the guy up the street had for a pet. First saw it last year...big sucker, bigger than a small dog...took it for walks. We live in tract 1082 across from The Refuge...pretty close to water. Anyway, big signs on phone poles in the neighborhood couple of months back. Seems the turtle took a hike for parts un-disclosed. He has offered a reward.

We were in steamboat over 4th of July weekend parked on the beach and a guy a few boats down from us caught one in one of those big fishing nets. He did put it back after he showed all the kids, no more water for me that day at that place.

I've never seen one at Havasu and I don't know if their the same kind you seeing but we used to catch them every now and again fishing off our property in Blythe. They were a soft shelled turtle that would snap your big toe off if given the chance when brought in the boat. Mean little buggers. :crossx:

A couple of years ago we were feeding one of two that came up to us at the back of our boat, on Memorial weekend and yes they were the snapping kind.

We have seen turtles at the lower sandbar in Parker several times. When we first saw it swimming we thought it was a snake because just it's head was out of the water.

We were in Steamboat a couple of weeks ago and the kids were fishing off the back of the boat and WAM !!! One of the poles bends over like it's going to break and starts peeling off line. I thought it was a big cat so we tighten up the drag and start working this thing to the boat and you guessed it.. A large, 18", snapping turtle is on the line. So we get it up to the boat and I reach down with some pliers to pull the hook and this things comes at me and misses my hand by a inch. It's neck was like 6" long and the mouth was wide open. Holy Shiat batman..... The thing trashed around a couple of sec's and popped the hook loose. Pretty damm cool but I can tell you, you won't catch me trying to hold one of those again.

Yeah those turtles are a big problem. At least 15 people a day on the weekends are treated for turtle bite's at the local hospital. I guess it doesn't make the news do to all the roudy people in the channel getting all the attention :rollside: :rollside: :) :rollside: :rollside:

I still can't believe there are turtles in the lake, I would think they would get mangled by props in the channel. The enviromentalists will have the entire lake declared some kind of wildlife preserve if they here of this.......

There are some huge beavers there as well. Not the 2 legged kind either. :rollside:
Last November, about 10:30 at night on the beach of the Nautical, I was walking across and the thing scared the crap out of me. It was huge too. Probably the size of a full sized lab, just closer to the ground.

AZ game and fish has some stuff about it.
By law, softshell turtles are considered aquatic wildlife and a fishing or combination license is required for take. ... Posted portions of Lake Havasu. ...

I had a guppie nibble on my toe one while standing on a trim tab, and that was traumatic enough for me. A turtle weighing in at 25lbs would probably get shot out of pure embarrasment for making me cry!

Agreed. If one bites me, we are going to have a problem. I might get all crazy like I do when I find a scorpion in my house or outside. I get all pumped to kill it like I was getting ready for the UFC or something.

Man Missing After Pulled Into Ocean By Turtle
POSTED: 4:01 pm EDT August 10, 2006
UPDATED: 8:41 am EDT August 11, 2006
A graduate student from the University of Central Florida is missing after he was pulled underwater by a large sea turtle, according to Local 6 News.
Officials said the man vanished Thursday afternoon about three miles north of the Sebastian Inlet and 400 yards out to sea, sheriff's officials said.
The student was apparently tagging turtles as part of a UCF research project.
"The person was onboard a Boston Whaler with other students when a large turtle pulled the victim underwater," Local 6's Bob Frier said.
The Coast Guard from the Fort Pierce, Fla., station is conducting the search with assistance from the Brevard County sheriff's helicopter.
Watch Local 6 News for more on this story.
