Removing intake and grate

Whats the best way to remove the intake and grate from my boat pump is a berk 12jg painting this next weekend and want to paint the entire pump too.Motor is already out along with the rest of the pump only thing left is the intake and grate what colors did you guys paint your pumps?Boat will be platinum silver base and blue saphire

I used a big (and sharp) screw driver between the putty and the intake . A few good blows all the way around . The shit is tough but be careful how hard you hit it .

Pulled mine into the sun and let it sit for a while, wheeled my hyd. jack under the intake opening, with a wood block in place I put a little up pressure with jack. Crawled inside and started chipping away. Intake started poppin up after some of the putty started comin off. Never flexed the glass either.
