The front end looks great, the back end is ugly. The interior is cool, but it reminds me of the 60s/70s, they did not do a good job of modernizing it while keeping the old look.

I will tell everyone who cares this....
People who redesign cars, boats, etc... often do it not because the new stuff is better but because it is different. Making it look different has taken a front seat to making it work better, and as a result you get something that looks different, but not neccessarily any better... Cadillac Escalade for example. It has grown on me, but nobody liked it to begin with.
Since the 40's, auto design has been slowly going downhill as a result. The early car designs were so organic and natural it was tough to get away from them. Fenders for wheels to go into, sloping hoods and big rears for passengers. Large trunks and interiors etc... Builders were designing cars to do things that the earlier ones couldn't because of technology or mechanical process changes. The shapes were a result of basic human design... They were shaped like we think they should have been... not just different from last year. Form to a large degree followed function, hence the early "Superbird" and other truly innovative designs coming from this era.
People are down on retro... whatever. The time spent between when the 70 Challenger came out and today has been automotive design purgatory. It has been the time that it took for the pendulum to swing back this direction.
Without the earlier Challenger/Barracuda to compare to or take heat as a result of, that concept would stand alone as one of the most beautiful cars ever to come out of Detroit or any other automotive producing city. It is flat out gorgeous because it hits basic senses of design and shape, and beats them with a hammer. We love it because we think that is what a car is supposed to look like. Never mind that the shape was largely dictated by the large engine, tires and suspension components newly required in it's era to compete in the market.
Musclecars are back, and I can promise you that everyone around right now to enjoy this generation is going to brag like hell about it in 20 years after the pendulum has made it's return trip...

Dodge is killing the competition with their concepts. The one thing i can't get over is why wont i buy one? How is the reliability on dodges these days? Ohh and JBB I bet it makes you sick to think about how much all of your other cars would have been worth today..

Yep! hindsight is always perfect vision...I always figured the vettes and mopar muscle cars I loved from the 60's and 70's would be worth alot....but I never imagined what the market is doing now. I hope Cobras follow suit....I will have one for sale soon.. :p ..... :p ...I enjoyed and used each one though...no trailer queens here...I had more hair [on my head]then too....

Sadly enough, Chrysler will fuk it up by making either in limited supply, or only four doors, or only turbo 4 cylinder, or some stupid shit like they have ALWAYS done in the past.
In recent history, try and buy a Viper or Prowler. Good luck, stand in line with a fistfull of cash and hope you get picked.
Want a Corvette, are you kidding me? Chevy will sell you 10 of them if you can pay for them.
Try an do that with a Viper.
I hope they pull their head out of their ass, cause we are getting one if it makes it to a dealership.

There are rumors that the new 392 Hemi crate engine, designed for racing, will go along with the new Dodge Challenger body as an option over the 6.1L 425HP. The 392 is apparently a racing-only engine in current form, not a production design, but a lower-power version may well be made for production and appear in the Challenger. The Challenger concept car to be shown at NAIAS uses, not surprisingly, the SRT-8 6.1 liter engine — but, unlike any current production LX car, it also has a six-speed manual gearbox from the Dodge Viper. (Automobile suggested that the 550 horsepower 6.4 liter 392 Hemi might be used.)
Now this would be a fun car!!!

I have owned, sold, and restored many Mopars over the years. I will have a rare 71' GTX in the next Spring Fling car show.
As an example of the pricing for documented properly restored muscle cars, here are a few figures that I am personally aware of.
1. 72 Dodge Challenger, convertable, 6Pack, 4 speed..$225,000 (basket case
2. 71 hemi Cuda 4 Speed, black, $250,000
3. 70 Hemi Cuda Panther pink in color, 1 of 2 built, not for sale, but worth in excess of $600,000
4. 70 Dodge Coronet RT, convertable, HEMI, 4 speed, $650,000
A well known colector will be offering a Hemi Cuda convertable for sale during the Barrett-Jackson Auction. So watch Speedvision next week!! It will go for between 1-2 million. New it was about $5,000.

I doubt this.
Which part you doubt :argue: :p :) ? I've sold the challenger with 90 K miles on it . I presently driving a 96 Mustang GT with 120 K miles on it,and the only thing I had to do is regular maintenance so far. Honestly I never had major problems with any of my cars ,because I take care of them . Oh sorry ,had some issues with my 64 Lincoln at 160 K miles , the front pump seal went on the tranny once . Cost me 200 cdn to fix  . My 80 corvette threw a harmonic balancer off at only 30 k kilometers :2purples: .
The 1998 GC I use for towing my twin engined boat has 65 k miles on it and still runs like new  . Not bad for a crappy chrysler product ;)

I've sold this 65 Galaxie [ was like new ] to a friend ,who managed to trash it in less than two years :crossx:
http://www3.telus.net/spectrasonly/Picture%20008.jpg
Same thing happened to the Linc . A rich painter in Whiterock bought it to tow his Garwood racer and let the windows down , rain got in etc....! Some young guys bought it from him to restore it ,and I hope to see it one day at some car shows

BoatPI , I'm curious to know ,what would a 68 Barracuda formula S conv with factory 4 speed would bring today ? I've sold mine in the late 70's [ keeping the Challenger ]and I know now that it should have been moth balled back then  .Apperently only 2000 were produced that year .

Gonna get me one, paint it bright yellow with black checkerboard racing stripe, put a great big Daytona wing on the back, call it a Super Bee, and.....
Wait. Hasn't that already been done?
Anyway. Those car freaks from the 60s are getting into high positions in management at the car companies and yearning for their youth.
Think about the Retros that have been done in the last several years.
The T-Bird was, I think, the first.
The New Beetle. (Nice concept, but the car and engineering is a POS)
Mini-Cooper
Mustang
Camaro
Now the Challenger
Add to that the "new" retro, like the PT Crusier and SRS.
Me, like most, like the original. I have a cherry Classic '69 Beetle, that was re-done (Restore implies all original correct parts) for less than $3,000, including the price of the car. It's probably worth double my investment.
Now if I wanted to re-live my mis-spent youth with a VW, why would I pay $20,000 for the "New" version of the Beetle when I can be satisfied with what I have for nearly a 10th that much. Can you imagine what could be done to a Classic Beetle for the same $20,000? One would be hard pressed to find enough things on one of those cars to spend that much money on.
The same goes for the "new" Retro cars. For the $30,000+ one would spend on a new Challenger, 'Stang, Camaro, etc, I think it would better spent putting one of the originals back into top notch shape, and it would end up being worth a lot more, too.

I can relate to your point Alan,......However I have been building and playing with 50's 60s and 70's muscle cars for years.....
Classic is great ......but I can tell you ...after owning and driving most early and mid year Corvettes ....they were not the best built cars in the world....they drove like a truck....in many cases drum brakes on all corners....
It is somewhat disconcerting to be cruising around in your 435 HP 67 Vette....with stock rims and tires..........and get your doors blown off ...by a new small block vette.....with the air on nice stereo....and in safety and comfort.....I would always opt for a Mid year, cause they have always been my favorite styling wise........but the other side aint doing bad either.....I am anxious to see Dodge bring this to market... :p

Personally I am all for the retro stuff. Great styling like we remember, with modernized chassis/injection/safety you name it.
I appreciate the old ones too, nice to see all the restoration going on now that prices have jumped.
