Hey guys, first time posting. I own an 87 wellcraft with a 383 aluminum headed blah blah and will be selling it. I am looking for a good 21-23ft jet boat that I can run some of my 600 inch big ford engines in? Need something atleast 21ft. Im 6'6" tall and the 18ft aint gonna work :rollside: Can anyone recommend some nice older jets in this range?

Eagle 21' aluminum tunnel, Should do well over 100 with a 600 inch Ford in it and you will fit just fine. I fit in my 16' Eagle and I'm 6'3". Sorry it doesn't fit your "old" criteria, the bottoms are new, state of the art, and very efficient. Might not fit the budget if you are looking for an old jet boat, but you could probably find a used race hull for a reasonable price-Aluminum Squirt

I have a Condor openbow that is a Rochell copy. My Brother in law is 6'8" and sits in my boat comfortably. He likes it because he can stretch his legs under the dash.
These boats are more common in the middle plains state because they were made in Oklahoma. My buddy has a 22.5 Kachina that is a nice boat. It is a semi deep vee.
Then there is all of the various daycruisers.

thanks pete, I might be looking for a day cruiser type that has some nice sleek lines to it. Any certain makes to stay away from?

Not goin there! Someone will get their feeling hurt. We all like to think that we drive the best boat made. I'm partial to Taylors and Condors, but that's because they were both made less than 60 miles from where I grew up.
The Taylors were meant to be lake boats period. I like the LP's and the LP bowrider. The SC is a nice looking classic boat.
Condor was more of a high performance boat company that dabbled in "family" jet boats. That is what I have. It is a heavy boat, but it runs 69-70mph with a 454 and a Dominator TD. It handles the water well and has plenty of room.
My friend's Kachina rides like a dream, but doesn't have that classic jet boat look. It looks more like a Baby Baja.

I think most of the Daycruiser types are pretty heavy layups. I will say that to look for solid stringers, floor, and transoms. Crawl up inside the boat and walk on the floor. There should be a little flex but not much at all. It should feel like an old house hardwood floor. Tap on the stringers and squeeze them. They should be very solid. Check the transom for rot. Check all the cables for movement; steering, forward and reverse, and throttle cables.
I just finished replacing the stringers in my boat and it is not a hard job but is time consuming and messy to do right. I also changed all the cables. But I bought my boat at a cheap price.
Just some things that I learned the hard way.

am I assuming righ that in these jet boats the stringers are somewhat exposed as compared to my usual I/O drive boats? I just finished the front motor mount boxes on my 21ft. I saw they were sunk when I bought it.

I only know about the boats that I've seen. The stringers on all the boats that i've been around are either 2x6's or 1x6's depending on the intended use of the boat. The engine is usually bolted to a engine mount that is bolted to the stringer horizontaly. They can be either a front and rear(midmount) to the engine or they can be two engine mounts and a jet pump clamp. Both of the boats that I have are using the 3pt mount which has two engine mounts and the pump clamp. The other ones are used for more high perf applications or a retrofit.

http://***boat.net/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=16414Good one, 396. ;) Do you see rockers? Pushrods? Hell, look into the ports do you even see valves? Is there a crank snout sticking out of the front of the block? Etcetera. Lots of parts in the background...god I know that story too well.
SBFtech, I for one would sincerely love to see a pic of your 600+ Ford stroker, so don't counter Steelcomp's post with parts pictures....back it up if you got it.

hey Futts, you still thinking about selling the Southwind 20? You know I've always wanted to see a big Ford in that boat.
SBFtech, if you can afford to build "some...600 inch big ford engines," then you can afford this beautiful late model one-of-a-kind Southwind 20-footer:
