I was finally able to take some decent pictures of the lightning last night with the settings you suggested me to use on my camera. I was only out for a few minutes because I was exhausted from drinking on the lake most of the day :crossx:

wow those turned out great. I actually got in my truck and drove towards the storm last night. Ended up taking photos there at the scenic area about 5 miles south of sara park. Parker was getting pounded. I took over 150 photos, but the storm still was a little distant from me to get good shots. Here are a few of what I captured.

I use a 5.0 MP Sony Cyber-shot.
Very nice - I was taking pictures from my backyard. I live against BLM land near Palo Verde North.

lalhc,
really great job of the lightning photos, it's about time someone else besides myself has the guts to get out in these storms and take photos.

the storm over Parker Friday night was off the hook. Saw the storm from my home in Havasu and got in my truck with camera and tripod and jetted over towards the storm. I was amazed with the amount of rain coming down. Anyways got a few photos of the lightning. It was really going off. Took those photos off hwy 95 about 5 miles south of Sara Park at the scenic outlook parking lot.

There is a fine line between guts and stupidity...

Thanks, but I study lightning so I know what to watch out for. Most all those photos I was sitting in my truck snapping photos with my camera on the tripod outside the door. I was safe.

GREAT PHOTOS MIKE!!!!!
But I still say you are going to get youeself killed if you keep standing out there all the time
really I'm careful. Most all the photos you see from me are lightning strikes that are 3 miles or more away. Also rain coming down is a very good indication that lightning could strike very close to me anytime. So when it rains on me during a t-storm I take cover.
