Pretty lame for a cobra. The driver can't shift for shit. Same goes for the viper.

Pretty lame for a cobra?
Don't know...didn't see it lose a race. He seemed to do what he had to do without damaging any parts :)

Ya I used to drag race in the late 60s. Had the Lions drag strip 1967 AHRA class track record @ 12.30/113.63 (signed by C.J. Hart) and a world class record at Lions Drag strip (68 winter nationals) @12.27/112.92 and a track record at Fontana raceway in a 67 350 Camaro and it was even a 4 speed.
Put a 427 in it and just raced brackets during 1968...only way you could make any money back then. Only had the car for a year. Sold it for what I paid for it...$2800.00
I was just ragging on ya because the cobra may have been a 289... who knows. I am sure a 427 would have been a little quicker. But if you noticed his ET dropped about 3/4 sec from the 1st race to the last. Maybe he was just taking easy (sandbagging). Just doing what had to do to win. I don't think OME parts are cheap for those things. If it was an original cobra? :rollside: :rollside:

I would have expected more than a best of 12.3 from that car.
Hot day or high altitude track?

I'm pretty sure cobra's with a small block only weight 2400 pounds or so.
My 67 camaro with a 327 ran 11.80's and I was in High school. Either way it did'nt seem like either the viper or the cobra driver knew what they were doing. I've seen a stock viper pull the 1/4 mile in the high 11's at a speed of 125 mph. Rock on.

Who knows what rear end gears were in it tho. If it had a tall set of road gears in it (like 3.00 or so), that'll kill the 1/4 mi times ,,, but do great for the top end. Now, a set of 4.11's, and he'd likely have trouble keeping the rear end hooked up behind a 427, and I'd smell sub-12 land there.

pretty weak for indy. that track has relatively low elevation and much better density altitude than my local track. hell even my ford lightning truck would smoke all them cars and give that cobra a run for its money too. my viper would just flat out waste that cobra, lol. but then my ridez have modz on them. the cobra driver did a good job with what he had, which appeared to be a small block engine from the looks of those times. the viper had no excuses as a stock gen 2 viper gts should pull 12's at the minimum. the record for a stock viper is high 11's.

I agree...my Viper would smoke that Cobra.

Thanks.......Nice ACR! I have not really had the opportunity to safely run mine up to speed tho we had a small window to smoke a M5 two days ago on the local freeway. I was ran up into 5th gear at 150.....then had to pull back. The cover that covers the covertable top was starting to move and I was afraid of ripping it off. So I dont use it much anymore if I know I am going to be on the freeway. Going to wait till it turns 20k or so then give it to John Hennessee.....let him message it a bit.

Cobra's ...If they have any kind of decent power in them at all......are a real handful to keep in a straight line.....I know mine is...

I understand the weight distribution, and thus traction and handling, is much better when the hood scoop is facing aft...

Probably the case ....till you figure in the ***boat Ridicule factor......easier to trade off a few mph....for the ability to fly under the radar......Hanson and Brown.....can be brutal!.... :p
