It's bad enough the cops have got to have speed traps on land, but isn't this taking it a little too far....Speed traps on water....
Wonder if my radar detector will work there????

The only reason this is being set up as a "speed trap" is because too many drunk idiots speeding and crashing into everyone and each other. I wont lose any sleep over it. :rollside:

Never Satisfied got to Havasu on Sunday for his trip this week. Sounds like they just finally got them installed.

I saw them putting the buoys up this morning. It is very well marked (about 6 buoys in each direction) but it's a pain fighting the current at 5 mph....

Well at 5mph, you won't spill your drink. :rollside: Then again just kill the motors and float thought, just take the key out and they can't get you for a DUI :D

Agree with ya on that one, ya almost have to be going about 10mph to get anywhere going up river, going down ya get some serious speed at an Idle! :crossx:

I'm thinkin, considering how narrow that curve is due to the new shallow sand bar on the inside of that corner and the number of wrecks that happen right there this may not be a bad thing.
Maybe a little inconvenient but not a bad thing.
Take your Sears boat owner that just has no clue and put him at speed, I for one don't want to be passing him or be passed by him in that area.
I'll live with the 5mph zone.

My prediction is that the rough conditions will get worse under the 5mph rules. There will be a large number of boaters that will exceed the 5mph rule and produce wakeboard type wakes through that section.

I don't think that's a "new" sand bar a all. Been there for a long time!

It gets pretty nasty through there at times with no beachs, but I am going on a limb to say that boats coming off plane and coming back on plane are not going to help in that area either.
I can see guys hauling ass up to it, stopping fast, swamping smaller boats, idle to bouy then throttle down and swamp more boats taking off like its the baja 1000.

I agree with a restriction, but "No Wake" is tough. 15 MPH would be acceptable. Any of us whom have launched in front of the casinos in Laughlin know what a pain in the ass it is to head up river at no wake speeds in front of the Harrahs.
What I don't like is the Fish in a Barrell feeling any of us (even the responsible drinkers) will have driving through there now on the way back from the sandbar. (For those of us whom launch in Needles.) :yuk:

Steve, when heading North it's the right hand turn above the Sandbar after you have gotten into the 'rock wall' area of the Gorge.

This only works if you are at anchor.
And not just dragging an undersized anchor either......but you can be hammered if you are anchored. :crossx:

Yeah, by the time I heard you we were already past. I tried to wave back but wanted to keep my eye on the road as well so it was probably a lamea$$ wave. I would have come back but we had my buddy and his 4 y/o and they were pretty beat from the day's activites at Park Moabi. That's what happnes when he only comes out once per year, gets overwhemled. LMAO We'll see you out there soon.

What they need to do is mark the area better when you leave the lake and go upriver. There is a floating sandbar and alot of people are getting stuck along with the tall grass and unmarked channels through it.

Up this way their slowly making all lake territory that leads into an arm on the lake, or a cove, 5mph. The mind set is to force all boating activities to the center of the lake. There for removing the danger of boating, ski-ing, tubing, wakeboarding, racing or whatever from the best most secluded parts of the waterways. The theory is to keep all boating activities to the center of the lake or waterways. That way everyone is corraled like a rodeo on the main body of lake in the open water where they are visible. Supposably making everyone more visable to each other and easier for law enforcement to patrol.
I read about this proposal by law makers several years ago in Water Ski Mag.
It was originally drawn up by fishing advocates. They grouped together nation wide! and pushed for the 5mph restrictions.
They have had no opposition because there hasn't been any publicity on the issue.

From what I gathered from the authors point of view was to bring boaters together as a group to protect peoples rights to use the waterways.
I was some what skepical until I visited one of my favorite lakes lately and one complete arm of the lake was shut down to 5mph. They moved the bouys about 1 mile further out than they where originally.
Since it was brought to my attention I've been seeing the situation more and more.

I'm sure the Dept. of boating and waterways has their own take on it.
Kind of starting to remind me of the off road vehicles. You'll need a special permit to use certain areas of a lake.
I'll take area 45 on lake Mead for the month of September for fishing.
Is there any permits for that area left!

They did the same thing at Naci...Moved the five mph bouys at least a mile farther out at the narrows (a local party place) Now evertbody seems to go to another cove which was usually for families. I think it done to keep us corraled in a smaller part of the lake :yuk: So the cops can keep a better eye on us.

They moved 5mph bouys so far out at one of the lakes I go to people complained about it.
To my suprise the next year they moved them back where they were originally.
