I have a Berkley 12jb jet pump(per the tag on the bearing housing).I dissasembled the bowl and the suction housing today. My question is ,how to identify what size impeller I have in it? The impeller has the marking "A2" stamped on it,Is this the size marking and is this a good impeller size.
Is the 12jb a good modle pump.I do want to upgrade to a split bowl.

i think that A2 would mean you have a AA impellor. never heard of a 12jb

The only way to know for sure is to measure....

Yellowboat is right.
AA is a good size, if you have a heavy boat, and a lot of HP, or just don't want to spin the engine as fast. You can also cut it to a smaller size should you wish in the future.

Olbiezer;does Your 12jb have the split bowl or the one piece bowl or does any one know for sure which bowl the 12jb is supposed to have?
I measured the impeller, although it is stamped as an A2,it measures,on the small dimention at 7 1/4",which makes it an "A",because the "A2 is 7 7/16",which means it was either cut down or miss stamped.
If You look closley on the tag,It was originally stamped 12jb-Aand then stamped B over the A.I assume the -a,orb refers to the impeller size.
I also have a jacuzi 12wj that was fitted with a berk impeller,It is stamped "A"and the part number stamed on it is legible,as it is a brand new impeller with No use on it and matches the berkley part number for an"A".Question is the Large dimention measures 8 3/4" where as the imp on My Berk measures 9".I know they are both Berk impellers.Could the one on the Jacuzi have been turned down to 8 3/4' to fit the Jacuzi?
Back to the modle of the pump ,I did not see any mention of a 12jb on the Bek web site,But My pump looks exactly like a 12jc. Did some one switch the bowls?........Hal

There was a Berk "B", I'm trying to see what I can find about it, if anything.
Yea, I bet the Berk was machined down to fit in the Jac bowl.
The Droop Snoot page at Berk, which sells a droop for a 12-J"G", also fits an A, a B, and a G, so the A and B were split bowls from the factory.
Droop Snoot For 12JG Jet Drive
Replaces steering assembly on 12JA, 12JB, and 12JG models only. Lowers thrust line for improved performance on some hulls. Includes rudder, reverse bucket and steering extension for Morse, Rideguide or Teleflex. Specify steering extension when ordering.

I was working on a 1975 Southwind 18 earlier this week. It has the JB split bowl Berk pump in it. The JB split bowl was the forrunner to the latter "G" pump.

Yea Riverjet, that is what I keep comming up with,it should have a split bowl. Some pevious owner must have switched the bowls.Ill just have to find a split bowl somewhere. The pump came in a Tahiti with a fairly new tandem trailer, that I picked op for 700.bucks and it has a new hydraulic place diverter on it.
I am pulling the intake and putting the Berk in My kona in place of the jacuzi 12wj ,that is in it now....Hal

Sorry to dig this post out from the past, but for documented purposes and some questions I have....I am currently working on a '69 wriedt stinger 16 which has a 12JB-B and the impeller says "A" but i havent measured it yet. I will do so when I get a chance.
As far as purchasing a rebuild kit for this pump, should I get the 12JG kit? I havent seen anyone offering a kit for the 12JB-B
Here is a few pics and a Link...

Any of the pump gurus like MPD, Hi-Tech, etc should be able to confirm the bearing size but I don't think much ever changed in the core parts of the berk pumps (bearings, shaft, impeller, seals). Intakes and bowls changed, and nozzle parts in relation to bowls, but there is a huge comonality to Berk pumps.

Yes, a kit for a 12 JG will give you everything that you need.
