From BoatingABC.com thread.

2yr old, missing. Last seen on a tube, behind dad's Bayliner, wearing a life jacket THAT WAS TOO DAMN BIG, and came out. Body still not found a month later. Dad being charged:felony child abuse resulting in death.
The spotter was his 3-yr old brother.
Now, I'd tow a 2-yr old, but not as hard as I tow a 12 or 15 yr old. I have towed a 5 yr old (daughter). She was wearing a life jacket HER SIZE, and when she fell off, we had no trouble finding her, FLOATING, wet, not real happy (kinda mad 'cause she used to hate getting her head wet like nothing else), but freaking ALIVE. She's 9 now, nearing 10.
Oh, I also had teenagers watching her splash.

Geeze,, no excuse.
Also, be sure to have a crotch strap for kids vests too.
No one under 6 gets tow'd behind my float, and they still have to swim.
Too easy to have a tragedy.

Don't know what to say.........what a costly mistake on the father's part. I couldn't imagine doing such a thing. Prayers with the rest of the family.

How can someone be so stupid as to risk the life of a child like that. God bless that poor little one that was probably scared to death in those last few moments. This is the worst thread I have ever read on ***boat and I hope that dumbass lowlife bastard rots in hell.

no joke! if he wasn't drinking or drunk, the loss of his child would be punishment enough i think for stupidity.as soon as my kids are within 10ft. of the water, they're in a jacket made for kids, their size.couldn't imagine the guilt that guy must have rite now, i couldn't live with it.

That is so sad. I have a 2 and 1/2 year old daughter and I don't let her near the water from shore unless properly suited. And I would NEVER put her behind a boat. Some people just don't realize the job of being a parent.
I say put PVC up his ass, insert barb wire then pull out the PVC. Let him sit on that for awhile. :crossx:

He sounds like the type of AH that doesn't mind because he has so many kids floating out there on the system, what's one less. It would be nice to see to it he never used his joy stick again, but then it would be one more brainless idiot.

Pretty GD pathetic.... if there is a silver lining, it's that the 3 year old may be able to live to 18 with dad getting Bf'ed saflely behind bars.

Sad story. They should drag the guy behind the boat until he drowns.
People fail to realize that you not only need a life jacket for each person on board but the life jacket must also fit properly on each person. If stopped while boating the authorities can make everyone on board try on their life jacket and could end your day if jackets dont fit properly.

I used to think that at every time a dumbass parent would leave their kid in a Las Vegas car in the 110 degree heat.
But now, I'm not so sure. If you're too stupid to remember that your 2 year old is in the back of your car or that he's too young to be on a tube, then "just losing the kid" DOES NOT seem like "punishment enough". At the very least, you should have all of the remaining kids removed from your custody...
Oh, and it doesn't seem that he has too much guilt from his statements.

This really makes me sad. What kind of guy tows a tube 20-30 mph with a 2 year old. Hell I pull my nephews all day long 5 and 3 and never go over 10mph. They have the time of thier lives.
The crotch strap is a must have! Prayers for the family.
