One mod quite a few guys have done with pretty decent success is remove the engine from the transom and replace it with a larger engine.

my grand father has a 30 hp( its a comercial motor... I yanked the restricter plate and it makes closer to 50 now...) "big foot" oil injected merc with only about a 100 hours or so.

Tom Brown is right. I race stock outboards. We use 33hp racing outboards from Japan and our speeds are in the sixties but these are not practicle motors for every day use.The only fishing motor that might work is a tahautsu or nissan and you can get racing props for these, but they are not cheap. Guessing maybe $600 to $800 for a good prop.

An SST 45 motor might get you where you want to be although I am not sure that hull was ever designed or built to run that fast. If you want to run quick in a small light tunnel, you should check out the classified section in the forums here (http://www.screamandfly.com) . Periodically, you will find a complete SST 45 set-up.

I know this is going to sound a bit absurd on ***boat but you want to go 60 in an 11 ft boat? Have you ever gone that fast in a boat that size? I have. Yamaha has a PWC that will do 65. I have run them and frankly it scared me shi....ss. A bigger boat sure. Triple digits in 40 footer, OK, but 60 in an 11 foot boat? Thats like doing 100 in a go-cart. Are you sure you want to do this? It will surely void any insurance you might have. Maybe some of you racers that have run little hydros can talk to him.
If you really want to do this, go for it.

I must regetably aggree w/ Ike. I've been 62 (GPS) in a 14 foot Glassmaster. Sure it's alot of fun but in no way is it safe.
"We" are nnot picking on your boat, we are just saying that 60 in an 11 foot boat is Haulin' Azz.
Just my $0.02...

Here is a pic of a 60 plus mph outboard. Notice the safety gear. Vest, helmet, and kevlar cut suit. :)

That pic gives me the heebie-jeebies and makes my butt look for something to grab on to. :skull:
I'm not saying that you or drudog don't know what you're talking about, I'm saying that I don't wanna do it. I is cheekin. :rollside:

Me too. When it comes to speed on the water the bigger the boat the less Cheekin. Back when I was a teen a cousin had a fourteen foot norseman with a 50 hp merc. (this was 1961 or 2) It was the fastest outboard on Lake Washington at the time (other than the racers) and would do over 50. He scared the crap out of me. Actually I think it was him and not the boat. He was wild.
I took a demo ride on a Fountain a few years back, 35 foot I think it was, may be wrong about that. The guy operating it let it rip. I honestly have no idea how fast we went but it was definitely over 60. This was on Lake Michigan in October and it was cold enough when we weren't moving and wave jumping, but at that speed I litterally froze my ass. So I was scared stiff and frozen to boot.
Then 2 years ago at The Office of Boating safety we tested a bunch of PWC's for off throttle steering. One of those things did a solid 65 on the radar. Geez. One little mistake and you're gone. Big boats are more forgiving.
I had a friend offer me a ride in a Hydrostream with twin 110's, I asked him how fast it would go. He said well we haven't got it fully tuned yet but last week it did over a hundred. I politely declined. At the time I was investigating 4 fatalities in Hydrostream boats that had kited and flipped, one at 117.
So, I love to watch the races, especially Hydroplanes, but to go that fast in anything under 40 or so feet is just not my cup of coffee. I'm 61 I want to live at least a few more years without breaking too many bones.

Yeah, 60 in an 11 foot boat is way too fast.

While I wouldn't call 60 in an 11' boat the safest thing to do, I certainly would not equate it to javelin catching or playing russian roulette with an automatic. I go 70+ in a 16' and its a very mild set-up(sometimes I even do it in Class III-IV whitewater or where its just a few inches deep). There are plenty of 13' sprint boats that can go 0-100 in just a few seconds and show you a couple of G's in the corners. These are all jetboat examples but I think its pertinent. Most of the new waverunners are running in the 60's right off the showroom floor and they are pretty short. I think with a helmet and lifeline, 60 should be pretty comfortable in an 11' boat-Aluminum Squirt

you'd never know it was a small boat, until you compare the size of the steering wheel to the rest of the hull..........
looks badass.......
I've got a Merc 55 short shaft, fully-labbed, sharpened, slightly cupped/tweeked stainless cleaver for it.......... the whole thing is going on
a 13 foot Duxboat 13 foot tunnel..........
we're looking for 70mph out of it............... testing shortly...
