SInce thee will be no "Lee" Schiada Regatta, I have been talking to a few owners about an unofficial Schiada get together and am looking at October 14. If there is enough interest we could still do a dinner at the Schugrue banquet room. Who is in and/or what about the date?

Franky, was just curious as to why so late in Oct, the water at Parker will be pretty chilly,as well as air temp, any chance of say Sept 22-23-24 weekend ??
Just wondering...................
Hey I was gonna put together the whole enchilada regatta formal deal but got the idea peeps just wanted to do an informal hang out in Parker instead. So, Sept is fine too. What say yeah folks?
Wasn't me in Parker, waiting for a new blower snout.

why so late in Oct, the water at Parker will be pretty chilly,as well as air temp, any chance of say Sept 22-23-24 weekend
Because Oct is the best month to be at the river!!! Its not soo hot that you have to be in the water 24/7 and it cools off at night. The water is actually warmer because it has had all summer to be heated by 115 days on end. Also most of the weekend woriors have stoped coming as well, school is back in. I have been going this time all my life and its allways been great.

Sounds good....also an earlier idea was tossed out on getting together at the upper sandbar near Foxes....that would be a good idea as it will provide a place for all to meet and greet....definitely won't be enough parking at Foxes for the all 15-20 boats to tie up even though a number of boats are staying at Red Rock and Foxes.....how about 12-1 at the upper Sandbar...- Mid October the place should be a little quiter as the kids are in school, and the Glamis Folks have already moved to the Dunes..

I heard the current is pretty good there and that an anchor and stake are mandatory. Not real into beaching in a big current, wake boat wash but whatever.

Bring a sand spike and a good anchor (I use a box anchor). You'll be fine. Drive the sand spike in close, underwater. We put a floaty on ours so no one walks into it. The current is not bad at all in the shallower water and there is, as Mike said, quite a bit of room there. We get boats in there pretty close with no issues...

Exactly as RivKid mentions above...anchor and a spike and you have no problems...no need to beach your boat...float in as the water shallows, motor off,...jump out catch it....., spin it....set the anchor out front and then spike out back and you should be set...
If anybody needs an extra box/spike, I can bring one of each..

Okay, anyone who wants their own e-mail just PM your e-mail address to me or better yet, PM Franky, this was his idea!! The e-mails that I received were from folks at Rio Vista, I can forward those but not a whole lot of info.
I think all the ideas that have been posted are great, 9-10 at the dam (Franky, you might want to warn folks about the channel/shallows a mile below the dam) 11:00 at the Bluewater would be awesome for viewing all the boats, and 12-1 at the sandbar across from Foxes, is a great spot to get together and tell lies about the top speed of our boats.

(Franky, you might want to warn folks about the channel/shallows a mile below the dam
Coming south from the Dam about a 1 mile south of dam, you enter Glass Alley area (sort of like a gorge)...Enter the gorge from the center and stay away from shallow beach on Cali side and then continue near the center as a 1/4 mile further south there is shallow bar near the AZ side....key here stay near center.
Another mile south you come upon the rock pile just north of River island...heading south stay to the right of the bouys and rock bar...
From there south just stay near the middle either to the left or right depending on either heading south or north...hope that helps..

Mine HAULS ASS............. behind my truck. :frown:
Coming up river just below Red Rock there's a huge rock bar on the AZ (right hand) side. I have some pics of it that someone took while the river was down but I'm pic posting impared.
Stay at least middle or towards Cali side at this point.
Waters good until Big Bend, the ninety degree right turn, about a mile up from Red Rock. River is narrow and deep up until just before the ninety degree left turn where it widens out just before the turn. No bars that I know of in this stretch except real close to shore. Like mbrown said keep to the Cali side of the buoys (narrow channel) here. Up river from there, just at the North end of the houses on the AZ side there is a long SHALLOW sand bar. Stay towards Cali side or center up to the big rock on the right where you dog leg to the right a little then you'll be looking right at the dam.

give todd a call a jokers wild, maybe he and his helicopter buddy are free for a few hrs while we all fart around on the river?? he could snap a bunch for a small fee, fuel for the twirly whrily :)
scott
Here is what Jerry the photo dude said (I think he is Todd's dad) a while back, I would have to check back with him
"Dear Frank,
TIMING!!!!!!!!!! I need to get the schedule for the ASM Poker Run. I was just talking to Jokerswild Promotions today about this poker run and they are in the middle of getting insurance. As you may know, since last weekend on the Delta, insurance companies might have a different view of providing insurance for major poker runs. How many boats will you have and do you have a time in mind? The cost of the helicopter is $400 ferry fee and $245 per hour. We can split out the ferry fee and bill you for the actual air time you use for the group and running photos. We can usually shoot a running boat in about 1.5 minutes and the group photo takes less than 15 minutes. So this might give you an idea of the cost involved. The images are posted on the web site so everyone can see them.
Later,
Jerry

V-drive video Jerry would tape and make a DVD of the event for $2,000.00 if everyone is interested. That would include thirty DVD's. If you haven't seen his work it is top notch. His River Rats II DVD is a must own for anyone with a v-drive.
He would interview everyone and showcase their ride and then tape passes or just general cruising, rafting etc.
The DVD would be a better deal than a helo in my opinion.
If enough people are interested I'd put it together. Franky might even want to bundle the DVD with the shirts.

As mentioned we will rope off at least 80' of the north end of the Beach for your groups use on October 14th.
Please be advised that the no wake zone applies and there is no launching from the beach.

Take care and if we can be of further assistance, please let us know.

I'm hoping to still make it but unfortunately time is getting tight. We fired her up yesterday on the trailer and she ran great. I am getting some grinding noise out of the transmission and I believe it is the flexplate hitting the motor plate. Shavings of aluminum appear on the floor just under the transmission. I cleaned the shavings up, started it again, and it did the same thing. I am hoping I can stick a mirror under there, see where it is hitting, and be able to get to it with a rotary grinder and achieve some clearance. The fuel lines coming out of the tanks into the pumps have a small leak so I am going to go see Superdave again and get the lines and fittings replaced. All that is left after that is to service the V-drive (drain and refill), mount my throttle retrun spring, hook up my forward reverse lever, mount my switches for fuel pumps, depth gauge, and cav plate switch, put the interior back in, and water test. The only problem I see is that I am losing this next weekend before the regatta to a business trip I can't get out of. I'm still going to try and make it and maybe take a day off during the week to head to Elsinore and test but who knows. I'll keep you all posted.

We will have a section roped off for us on the beach at the Bluewater (thanks Hallett). I just talked to catering and they can serve us at the cantina that is right next to where we will be hanging out. They don't normally do breakfast but can have the stuff to do "breakfast burritos" . We can line something up for a certain time of let people eat when and where they want. Whatever anyone wants. No registration, no fees, no structure. Just drop by. But you MUST LEARN HOW TO SPELL SCHIADA. The only thing I wanted to organize was the awards which you have to be there to be included and vote.

just wanted to let everyone know that i was at parker for the past 4 days and the water is flowing in the right direction, all of the bars are still there and the sand bar still works, ha ha
On a more serious note, on the way home the boat and trailer was hit on the freeway by a truck sliding across 3 lanes of traffic. Had my kids and wife all sleeping in the motor home when it happened, everyone was buckle in and it didnt even wake them up until i stopped and got out to see the damage. I thank God that it was not worse and everyone is perfectly OK!
Right now i am dealing with Insurance and trailer companies around here to get it fixed so i can get back out to parker next weekend!

Yeah, scared the crap out of me thats for sure, wasted a fender, tire, wheel, step and axle. I cant believe he didnt hit the boat, dont know how he missed. Just God watching over our family again and always!
I don't want to touch anything until his insurance company looks at it. And of course they were closed today. So i hope they can come out tomorrow and i can get a new axle under it. I can live with the fender and step being screwed up for one more trip this year. I will be damned if i let some one crash into my trailer and make me miss this regatta. hehe :crossx:

We will be on the river Friday helping Gary H. dial in the #17 race boat. We are new to the ***boat Forum but well seasoned River Rats. We look forward to seeing a nice display of watercraft at Bluewater on Saturday and making some new aquaintances. Several of our 'Schiada' friends will join us as well.

We were able to get things semi patched up today, temp fix on the trailer and we are ready to go!! If there is an ugliest trailer contest i may win! Fender all tore up step looks like crap and light broken, slapped on the spare tire and away we go.
This week kind of reminds me back when i raced stockcars, got to fix to go race the next weekend. And after looking at the trailer bring back some lost memories... oh well, most important thing, i will be there. I need to thank my Father in-law Wayne for all the help. Wouldnt have been ready without the help, BTW, he will be there with his Schiada too, its the red one to the left.

Sorry guys I am not going to make it. The boat is at ART Carr's shop in Huntington Beach right now getting the Transmission fit with a spline drive and billet flywheel and reverse shift pattern. I dropped it off yesterday and last week it went to Wall strong trailers in gardena for new bearings, seals, races, get a couple of lights replaced and some wiring cleaned up. At least i can tow it now with peace of mind. I should have it back by the end of the week and then I can finish up a few last odds and ends, service the V-drive, and head for Elsinore to start playing with props. Hope you guys all have a fun weekend. Rub elbows with Uncle Joe if you get a chance. he is my uncle and has owned a Schiada as long as I can remember. By the way my campsite is available at red Rock is somebody wants it. It was like $80 bucks for two nights so if someone wants it than they can just slide me an $80 check. If not I'll have to eat it. It is campsite 23.

So I heard from Richard the Heli-Photo guy today. He can be at the Bluewater at 9:30-9:45 for some group shots on the beach. The heli is the bigger one so he started at $500 and we ground him down to $300. I will commit if enough folks say they will step up with $10-20. I need to let him know tomorrow so post away your thoughts. Also, plaques look good. Nine catagories. Please come by in the morning and register (no fee, donations for heli-photos and awards are good, but no worries, but remember the regatta last year was $150!! so $20 won't kill you), get your ballot and gander at the awsome rigs. Try to be launched and set up by 9:00. Hang out till noon then run up river.
Screw the weather predictions. Don't matter, never turns out like they say. It will be an awsome day no matter what.

Yes. If you need fuel before you launch you can stop at Parker Oil located on the right a few blocks after you cross the river coming from Hwy 62. If coming from LHC the Shell station on your left just after the turn off to Parker Dam has AvGas. While you are on the river you can purchase AvGas at Buckskin State Park. AvGas is dry so you might want to put a few ounces of top oil in your tanks at each fill up. We use Marvel mystery oil or outboard motor oil.

It was great seeing all the high performance Schiada on the Parker Strip. I know many of you didn't show because of concerns about the potential noise ticket. I'm sure the local businesses enjoy having you that did show! This time of year is slow for many of them with summer being over and it's not quite snowbird season. Parker is a small town and your visit makes a difference in our local economy and for the people that work here. Hope you guys had a good time and will do it again next year.

Thanks for putting this together Franky, we had a great time and it's always nice to put faces to the names here. Nice turnout beautiful boats and great crowd.
When we left the dam I stopped to fuel up back at Echo. Right when I pulled up to the buoy my lower pully assembly fell into the bilge! :2purples:
I am happy about the timing though. :D Maybe the belt was a little too tight?

So where do I send the plaque? Sorry about your luck guys. Really nice hanging out with everyone. What was the problem with your engine?

Thanks to Franky and all the folks that helped with and participated in the 'Schiada NOTA Regatta'. Condolences to those that could not make it.
What a great show of some of the best watercraft ever assembled. Every boat had its own personality. It seems so appropriate to see all of those 'River Cruisers' on the river.
I have some nice pictures, however I have spent the last 30 minutes trying to resize them so that I could post them. I'll get through this and post a few later.
We enjoyed meeting and talking with many of you.

It was a great turnout, about 28 boats. I was a little nervous early in the morning but by 10:00, they were rolling down the river and filling the beach. That must have been a site sitting on the shore watching (and hearing) 25 Schiadas fly by the afternoon. It was great to see everyone and their boats. They were all winners but just for fun, a few got awards.
The award winners were:
Sickest Engine - EZE - Steve Hatch - '06 21RC Brummet twin turbo
Sickest Boat - EZE - Steve Hatc - '06 21RC Brummet twin turbo
Trailer Queen - Hallett - Bob Stanfield - '95 21RC
First to Break - 38676 - Ed Derenger
Best Restoration - Franky - Frank Doerfler, Jr. - '86 21RC
Best Original - Uncle Joe - Joe Enfield - '84 Whaler
Best Outboard - Tony D - Tony Dambrosio - '02 21RC 250 Optimax
Best V-Drive - 05Schiada - Steve Yoder '06 21RC
Best Outdrive - Randy Wilson
I still have some shirts for RedRocker (2) and Corleone (1) and about 5 extra that if I sold it would be good. Anyone want a nice shirt?

Uncle Joe, I especially like the 3rd picture with that red 21RC in the foreground. Your OK for an old guy with a beater Schiada. Kidding man, that whaler is the bomb. THANKS for making it and posting those pics.
