Copied from OffshoreOnly.com - For a worthy cause. :)
John Haggin of AMF Offshore Racing admits, "We bit off a little
more than we can chew. We bought this sweet little 30'canopied
Phantom for one of our drivers to campaign on the OPA circuit but
between her APBA Hydro schedule and our ability to field three
boats at each race, we just can't add this one to our fleet. So
rather than let it sit, I'd like to donate it to a worthy cause."
The boat that Haggin is donating is a 1999 canopied 30' Phantom
Speedster, the former Wild Ride boat with a three-man canopy set
up. Driver and throttleman up front and Navigator seated in the
rear. The boat has a brand new Wazzup Racing engine and Mercury
Racing #4 drive on a stand off box. It will be freshly painted all
white and delivered to its new owner in Destin Florida at the
joint OPA/OSS World Championship races with a P4 number in it,
ready to race for a World Title.
So how can you own this race boat? Simple, buy a ticket for $50
and keep your fingers crossed. "We hope to sell 1000 tickets at
$50 a piece by the October 1st deadline" said Scott Begovich,
director of Racing for AMF. "No matter how much money we raise by
the October 1st deadline, the monies will be paid out accordingly.
Twenty percent will go to Breast Cancer, twenty percent will go to
the Shore Dreams For Kids charity and the remaining sixty percent will
be applied to the OPA race in Destin Florida. With this money, we
are hoping to help OPA (www.oparacing.com) distribute a purse of
over $50,000 at their World Championship races this November, or
we might pay out tow money to the teams. It depends on how much we
raise."
In addition to winning the boat and racing it in Destin, the
winner will receive hotel accommodations in Destin, two race
helmets, life vests and a full tank of fuel. The boat will be
delivered Race Ready and when the Worlds are concluded the new
owner will be able to tow the boat home with him/her on a tandem axle
trailer.
There's just a little bit of fine print with this offering, Haggin
would like to see the boat campaigned with OPA or POPRA during the
2007 season and the AMF and Offshoreonly logos need to stay on the boat until after
the 2007 Worlds. Additionally, Extreme Boats Magazine will follow
up with a feature article showcasing the winner and their
experience in Destin.
