View Full Version : Feel Good Story Of The Day...'70 Hallett Back On The Water

Dave Sammons

Sometimes life gets in the way of this boating thing we all enjoy. Dick and I finished up this 1970 Hallett awhile back for Darnez and Regina Taylor. Because of personal priorities, and for all the right reasons, taking the boat to the water had to take a backseat. Well, today, the boat, that has been in Darnez's family since 1971, the boat that he learned to drive and ski behind and lived out all his boyhood dreams of speed and racing(just like the rest of us) finally got wet in all her restored glory. I'm tellin' ya, it's days like today, with all the emotion and history that get tied to these old flatbottoms that just make it all worth it! Darnez and Regina...Here's to the next 36 years!! :D :D

Was that before or after you unleashed some whoop-ass?LOL
I remember seeing this boat just after it was finished, very nice. It's great to see a clean classic boat like this. I really like the flake paint, to me that stuff is timeless. I have my dads '64 Hallett, with a 427 H/M side oiler, in my garage. I'm trying to convince him to redo the paint back to red metal flake, the way it was in '64.

Pardon me, but I'd like to address a previous statement made by Billy B....
The other time you witnessed a smile that big on Darnez's face was when he said "I Do!" to his lovely bride, namely me, Regina! I'll get my own log on name shortly. :p
Now, from "THE Brutha"....
Hey Rattle Can...
Don't be scared. We've had breakfast & drinks together and I promise not to tell anyone in Idaho that you're down with "THE Brutha".
Coldfire,
No need to go through Billy for the new driving scooters, for "THE Brutha" can always hook up a fellow admirer of the green & yellow.
Dave (MY Brutha),
I couldn't have waited 2 years to finally log on without saying thanks to MY Bruthas at S & W for all the laughs, friendship, help, and trips to the river to ride in the back of Smoooth. There's no better place to be on a summer day. Thanks man.

I can understand being at the river with your buddies is a great time bro, but you really need to work on getting a front row seat in "Smoooth" instead of always riding in the back. Times have changed buddy. No need to except this type of behavior. :rollside: :rollside:

Awesome Dave!! That thing came out bitchen. I love those old Hallets. My pops had two of 'em. The first with that same metal flake green. He and Nick went back and forth on putting the second one together, after running it on the river for years and getting it to run a solid 100 he sold it. Getting into racing he needed to build what was at the time, the newer faster Hondo runnerbottom design.
Dads old Hallet, I believe he sold it to Chuck Boyd...
