Looks like that will be a neat project. That's from back in the bay when the off shore guys ran v-drives. Funny how times change and then go back. If you notice that the "hot/trick" new schiadas have external steering now.

You talking about O/B steering similar to the race hydro's? Where do they run the cavitation plate or does the rudder sit far enough away from the back of the boat to also allow the cav. plate as well? I would think that would be a more durable set-up on high perf. 20's and 21's.

The rudder sits inbetween the cav plates. The plates are cut out to make room for it. It has a plate above the rudder that I would think is just to reduce the spray/splash. The ones I have seen had a tiller type of set up that goes inside the transom with a hyd. ram for steering. They realy look slick and help the handling a bit.
