Any way you can get some specifics on the motor? Compression ratio, how much boost, intercooled, aluminum or iron heads, any other details?

I was told it was 8:5:1 and set up at 3 lbs boost. Iron heads. I ran 92 pump gas the first time i took it out. seemed to run fine. Wandering if I should run octane booster. Im new to the blower game and like any thing else you want to get a head start on the learning curve. I did two runs on it for a total of 20 minutes each. Not going crazy just getting used to a boat again its been a while. I shut it down and on the third start it turned over fine but wouldnt fire. I loaded it up on the trailer and drove home. I then turned the key and it fired right up. Flooded? I also have two fuel pumps one being high volume. Should I run that all the time or just when I want to get on it? Thank you for your imput.

Generally speaking a supercharged motor will take premium fuel. The cylinder pressures in a supercharged motor are much higher. Running octain booster in the motor will only raise the octain about .5 to 1 points. I have looked at plugs that have used octain boosters and they put a red color on the plugs. Not really sure though if it actually affects the plug though.

An 8 1/2:1 454 with 3# of boost should have no problem with 92 octane fuel. Many people run up to 5 or 6PSI and still run super unleaded. Always good to take a peak at the plugs on a new (to you) motor, to make sure there isn't any problems.
BTW congrats on the new boat.
Darrell.

Im running 8lbs. with a super chiller on 93 with no problems. I think you could go up to 13.5:1 final comp. with a chiller and be ok. I wouldnt go any further though.
