Do you know by chance if the owner changed anything in that 572 or just ran it as is out of the box???.. Any numbers on how it ran???

It's out of the box with bigger oil pan and the usual marine stuff added to .
I was curious to talk to him , hence i was involved with a ZZ572 install on a 34' boat I've posted info on here before . We have over ca 60 hrs on ours l>

Without dismantling the engine , checking bearing clearence , re-gapping rings , I would advise to take it easy up to a 100 hours . It should go for as long as any other "marine engine" .

Sweet boat... I'm running a ZZ502/502 Only changed oil pump, oil pan and valves. And of course the marine stuff as well.... This is my 7th season with no mechanical problems yet. Just curious how the're running on the water... Thinking of upgrading to the bigger crate and wondering if anyone has had any big issues with them...

Do you have to change the cam on the 572 for a jet?

I think he runs the stock cam on the jetboat ,with water shot off at start up avoiding water reversion . We have left the stock cam in our project running dry pipes , dumping water far at the tail .

I wonder which 572 it is...the high compression or lower?

Both are 620 HP [ lower compression engines ] .

Rumor has it, back off the total timing to 28 degrees and run 93 pump gas and the high compression 740 HP 572 works just dandy. :rollside:
Now all I need is an extra 15K layin around

Spectra...
Nice looking motor you have there......What are you planning on using it in??? My exhaust is a REX Power Torque's made by Gill. The risers are mandrel bent stainless steel. The 396 stickers; I had a local sign maker make up for me. He enlarged the decal from one of my old chevy power books to fit in the valve cover inserts... I was looking for a sleeper effect kinda like the "Brady wagon on steriods"...lol.lol...

It's a 396 set up for a V-drive. It sits in my friend's shop for advertizing purposes . One day we'll put it an a suitable boat :) .
