They used to do that exact training in the oldstyle steel hull 12 man 64 hp bathtubs.
I tell any kid going into the service. If ya wanna go to sea, it's the Coast Guard,
otherwise the Air Force.
Ya can see why.
Much more fun.

They have a guy in FL that all he does is fly around in a Helio and shoot out motors of drug runing boats with a .50 cal barret... I would do that for free.

How about 40 footers in a 12 ft zodiac off the coast of Korea. Oh ya, at mid-night and 10 below zero. That will get the pucker factor going.

Major pucker factor.
At least I was a life long surfer and respected the waves and understood how they broke. So I had a little better grasp of the situations than some of my midwest or Great Lakes mates.
The hardest thing was getting to trust the boats. I'd driven 30'-31'-40' and 41' Patrol boats, and knew their limitations in rough water. As soon as my mind realized that the old 44' would snap right back up, the fear left and it started being close to fun.
It would have reached all the way to "fun", except for the gravity of the task at hand, and the realization of what one minor mistake could bring.
I would have liked to take one of the new 47's or even the 30' SRB (Surf Rescue Boat) through the Cape, but they came along a few years after my time at the helm.
