From this air shot, does anyone know what raceway this is? The wife snapped the pic on our way back from Havasu. I believe it would be in the Palmdale/Lancaster area. We were well west of Edwards, right in between Gorman and Mojave/Tehachepi. Just curious what course it is.

it's a fun track, use to run it with the "SoCal Shelby Social Club" and test and tunes when I was working for Mike Lewis's #12 TransAm team, not sure but I think Mike still holds a record or 2 there

Phoenix?
ding! we have a winner!!! yes, that would be phoenix international raceway back in 1995 or so before bill france (owner of nascar) bought the facility for like 65 million and renovated into the current state you see now on TV. my fastest lap time on this tracks road course which utilizes approximately 3/4 of the oval like daytonas road course was 1 minute 10 seconds in the Z-car. i raced my car around the 1 mile oval one time and my fastest lap speed around the oval was an average speed of 120 mph.

Phoenix is a great track. I loved watching the Indy cars pull some serious G's in the corners. It boggles the mind to stand in turn one and see those cars run into the turn at 180 MPH. The Copper Classic was always a good show as well.

copper classic with the those modifieds was my fav too. the track record is held by an indy car with an average lap speed of 178 mph. its the fastest 1 mile oval in the world.

That's kickin in a Z.
We ran the Copper with the Midget the Super Modified a bunch of years ago. The best we did in the Modified was 31.20(wich would have put us in the second row outside of the Indycar race) and in the midget was a 35.00. We sat on the pole for the SM and finished 3rd behind Davey Hamilton and Dave Steel. We wrecked the midget with P.J. Jones. Actually, I wrecked him and myself. DOOHH!
