If a given boat runs 75 mph at 5500 rpm with around 645 hp (motor probably makes around 600-620 hp @ 5500) spinning a Berk A impeller, how much power will it take to make it run 100?

after doing the math you're looking at least another $7 grand!

75mph/645hp=100mph/"X"
X=860
But I like the way you did it better. In Dollars! :jawdrop:
This is using straight math, but there are more variables than that; such as wind resistance and friction on the hull.

According to Jerry Friddell's Jet Boat Performance Calculator you would need 880 HP spinning the A impeller at 6538 rpm.
The calculator used to be available for free download at liquidaddiction.net, but the site is apparently gone.

El prosecutor... on your pump torque graph is A2 the "AA" impeller? thanks, CC

Thanks guys. BTW, if you plug in $7k and 880 hp, how many cubic dollars is that?

YOU MAY JUST WANNA PLUG IN $10,000 BECAUSE YOU DONT WANT TO UNDER ESTIMATE, AND AS FAR AS HP, TO MUCH IS NEVER ENOUGH :rollside: :rollside: :rollside: :rollside:

First off, where does the motor make the most power? Is it 5500 rpm? If the motor makes more power at a higher rpm then you should look into matching the impeller to whatever that RPM. Also, look at your intake, loader, shoe setup. You could be hurting yout performance if not setup correctly. Also, my Liberty ran over 75mph with much less HP (500 ish) around the same RPM and that was a 19' v-bottom with no droop and no bottom work done. Depending on the hull, you should be closer to the mid 80's if its something small like my Liberty, but if its something larger like Hustlers cruiser then your going to need more power then you think to get to 100mph and 10k would just be the start of it if you want anything to last...

Hey Randy. It's the 22' cruiser. MPD pump, shoe, rideplate, droop, & the wrong loader, stereo, 2 amps, & a subwoofer. Just thought it would be cool to make that big bitch do a buck.http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/521/2930BLYTHE062604_022.jpg

Install a 400 shot of nitros and you should pick up a few mph's plus the laughing gas would make a day on the river a little more fun.

Yea, 880 HP and 6,500+RPM equals 100 MPH with an "A".
Cut it to a "B" and do it for 100 HP less, 6600RPM
Cut to a "C" and do it on 680 HP, 6,700 RPM. Has it thrown the rods yet?

Yeah run a c cut impeller in a 22 ft cruiser and do it in 680 hp
I would not run anything less then an A in that big of boat. Thats just me.

A couple years ago the boat had 750hp & a AA. Ran 84.5 @ 5400.

Thinking stepping the Devil up a little huh Greg? The thing already hauls the nuts for a cruiser. Who's the cat on the squat riding shotgun?

LGC,
What hull is that? It's hard to tell from the pic, but it doesn't look like 22' Looks about the same size/maybe a touch smaller than a Dana/Southwind 20. How does it stack up next to Tim's boat right now?

Sundevil. It's a 22'. From what I hear, they only laid up 4 or 5 of them before they went belly up. I've never seen another one on the water. I beat up on Tim down at Martinez, but he's been bustin' knuckles on the Southwind. Might be a different story next time out.

Dr Evil would recommend "1 million HP"
Me, I'd recommend an Eagle 21' tunnel boat with the same motor you have, if you really would like to go 100 mph. I could go 100 mph with 565 hp in race trim. Throw an interior and a few seats and you'd be the fastest and happiest guy on the river.

I wouldn't either, and I don't think it would work quite like that, I was just curious where the calculations led to. :)

There's only one dude who's the fastest on any given day. You try to be that dude, probably won't happen, and you'll never be the happiest, either. The point is not to make this the fastest boat on the river. This is far from the package I would start with, if that were my intent. Just want a cruiser that'll run 80 from Topock to the sandbar & back, and smack 100 when somebody like Futs wants a piece :D
Just kidding, Tim.

Boy your really bustin my balls Greg. You know you only beat me by a boat and "I wasnt running good" LOL . But I have that all worked out and if you would of brought your tug boat out to Aha, you know I woulda put the hurt to you. We were only running in the 70's at martinez And since the Aha trip I have found about another 25-30 hp in my spark plugs. I had the shortys in the heads so they were sucked up in the head about a 1/2 inch. Broke a valve spring retainer at big river over labor day and notice the spark plugs. Double check your part #'s..lol

Greg, did you sign us up for the Parker 300 yet? I have a fuel sponser and you said you wanted to try and blow it up !!! That would be the best place to try and do it.
Chris, its a clean looking boat and runs hard. I love the long deck it has and its still pretty low on the freeboard. Its a true 22'r.

That didn't take long. I need to get me some of those special plugs.......and a C impeller.......and an aluminum hull. And your boat was lighter. We ate all your food!!
BTW, you spelled "WINNER" wrong :rollside:
You try that snoot yet. Be interesting to see how that works on the SW. I didn't like it on this one.
