Ok - lets address this - this year my boat has been towed all over hell and back at a highrate of speed around corners and hot highways ! the previous owner put a new set of winston tires on my ride ( passanger car tires ) My boat is a howard day cruiser 21 foot - tandem axle trailer -- well i got a flat - seems one tire seperated - well all the others are also - The les swabbber tire guy is recommending Trailer tires ( my boat only weights around 3600 lbs with the tires ( the is an estimate ) i may be suprised if i weight it - guess i should lol ! any ways i cannot see putting "trailer tires " on as they are ugly lmao and I deem them un neccesary for what i'm hauling so i'm curious - I have seen some bitchin trailers with custom tire /rim combo's what is the tire size , load rating of your tires and also what maitence do you do on your trailer tires ( lets be honest here - don't blow smoke ) please include your three axle combos as eventually i will have one for my rig - all show no go :
also include your Tire zone - I think they are signified by a- b- c - Maybe frenchie could give some insight Mr Rubber ! post away my Whores :)

I use trailer tires on my boat trailer and on my flat bed car hauler. I forget the size and make right now. I wanna say my boat has coopers. My flat bed is useing radial trailer tires from schwab. I will get makes and sizes posted after work today for you...
PS: mine are not ugly by anymeans.

Put trailer tires on there for piece of mind. I dont know what you mean by they are ugly? My Dad put some new ones on his 21' Eliminator, which is a similar hull to yours and he has ran for about 3 seasons and they still look good as new. I forget what brand they are.

Lucky, I just put a set of these (http://www.maxxis.com/products/trailer/product_detail.asp?id=118) on my trailer. My tire vendor I use, tells me they are the best tire for boat trailers. I've had them before on previous trailers and have had good luck with them.

on my lighter trailers (under 5000 lbs) I have had great success using steel belted radials rather than trailer tires. they tow great and they seem to pick up less crap from the road (nails and such) Just make sure the weight rating is correct. It is stamped on the side in tiny lettering in number of lbs.
My new one is 7000 lbs and uses steel belted radials. It also tows great and I haven't had any trouble.
IMHO trailer tires are great for trailers with a lot of weight (8000 #'s or more) with a high center of gravity. They will make the trailer tow staighter. (i.e my 5th wheel has trailer tires but is 11,000 #'s and stands 13 feet tall)
the problem is some trailer tires are biased ply construction and are nowhere near as resistance to picking up nails and screws and other roadway crap. Bottom line, steel belted radials have a much tougher tread area.
I make sure I have a good spare on my fifth wheel.
I get more flats from screws and nails that I hardly have to worry about putting enough miles on the tires so they get to the point of separation.. :cry:

I have a set of Duros that are lasting pretty well. Trailer tires are made with a better sidewall to hold up to all the bouncing and flex that they are subjected to.

Other than what's listed above, it's my understanding that trailer tires sidewalls are reinforced for the side load that multi axle trailers put on them while turning. I will be running passenger car radials (with the appropriate speed and weight rating) on my single axle boat trailer.

Maxxis. Not worth the trouble to just go for good looks, although, they don't look bad. I tow everywhere, and have not had any probs., but only going on second year. Trailer tire problems suck, and usually at the worst time. Good luck.

I only have a single axle trailer, but it has worn various passenger car radials (14" 70 series) ever since 1978 (new), with zero problems, also zero flats. The current ones weight rate 1960 pounds ea (if memory serves correctly). That's 3900 pounds capacity with only arround 2500 atop them.

on my triple ax, and love the way they pull. Had GY Marathons before, and two of them blew (separated). These are really solid trailer tires and are smooth and quiet. A friend just put 4 on their Shockwave's trailer and 4 on their 26' WW. All at my recommendation. We have a family owned tire shop, and seldom see come-backs from these tires IF ANY.
Being 8-ply, all 6 of them laugh at the boat and trailer weight.

I have Goodyear Marathons on the boat trailer. No problems yet, but I don't tow much, just back and forth from the Havasu house to the ramp.
I have a 26' enclosed trailer that I do tow a lot. It came with Secura light truck radials, size 245/75/16. Total trailer weight is 10k when fully loaded and have probably towed 15K miles. Tires wear great and not a single problem yet.

On my boat trailer 21ft eliminator i use the passenger car radials been doing so for 2 years 2 trips to powell,few to river,and many local trips.So far been doing well.Plus trailer tires are only rated to 65mph and best recomended to replace every 3 years no matter what.And yea these tires ahve seen 115 degree heat doing at least 70-75 to powell.Previous were goodyear marathons which were 4 years old still had alot of thread life but 1 blow out to powell then next trip to river one was ready to blowout half way there when 1 gos the others sonn follow
On my toyhauler i use goodyear marathons but that trailer is alot heavier loaded up for desert trips just replaced last year after the previous general brand tires 1 blew out so i replaced all 4.I had to use a passenger car tire cause thats all i could get on a sunday coming back from glamis on t day weekend at 2.30pm but it got me home barely
