Mesa Verde? Where do those cave dwellers have the villages on the sides of cliffs?

That's the place... It's in the Southwestern corner of Colorado. Cortez in the closest town, or Durango... lots of good bars in Durango...

The State of Texas will send you free, and thick illustrated guide of interesting places to stop off and and see.
They've been sending them out for decades, updated every year, and it's Da Kine guide.
It's either their Visitors Bureau, or Dept of Tourism,, somthing along that line what ever,, a great guide ya might be able to order on line.
It knocks down the boredom of the long drive.

If you are driving a U-Haul I would say you will be stopping at the repair shop. Those things are POS. Get a Penske truck. Good luck.

I moved my grand parents in a uhaul form sac to idaho. the damn thing broke down 3x. The 1st time was in the drive way( lights would not go out, fuse and batterys were under lock and key.). I will never rent from them again. Unless you get a almost new truck, I would expect it to take forever. its not ez getting those things up to 60. I actaully pegged it goind down hill( 85ish) only to barley be going 15 going up the next.

aaaahhh, the little boys room! Manny, H2o,Ratso, last time I looked at a map I-10 didn't go through Cowtown,Big D , or Durango!
Crusader, when you hit the Texas/Lou line, give ol' Hoss a call. If he's sober he might just show you his pet alligater and if he's not he'll probably try to show you his pet prick.
drive safe,
Rio
No one gave details of the planned route.

47 hours. Drive it straight through, grab a case of red bull and go! Thats the only way we do it. Stop only for fuel and grab a bite at the truck stops.
Made the SoCal to Florida trip 12 times in the past 2 1/2 years towing the race boat. Be ready to sit through crappy construction traffic in Houston and the first 80 miles of freeway in Louisanna will break trailers and motorhome interiors its so rough.
Good luck with your trip, and enjoy the new 80 MPH zones going through Texas. :rollside:

You know when you rent uhaul trailers you sign a thing stating that you won't drive over 45mph. Its posted all over the trailers, even where you can see it in your mirrors. Don't be shocked if you end up with a tire, brake, light, and/or barring porbs on your trip.

If you're comming across the 10, I can't help you much with scenic stop offs. but if you decide to ride the 40, I have more suggestions that can fit on the page. and alot more to see than be crammed into a month of touring just here in the Blue Ridge / Great Smokey Mountains of NC. and a few nice stops in TN.
1~ Chimney Rock NC. Including Lake Lure.
2~ Cherokee Indian Reservation Cherokee NC. Including a Harra's Casino :D
3~Nantahalla National Forrest Cashers NC
4~ Biltmore House and Gardens Largest privately owned home in the US. Biltmore NC.
5 ~ Cherokee National Forrest NC.
6~ Blue Ridge Parkway NC. Breath Taking Scenery ,Pisgah National Forrest . Take a trip down sliding rock. brrrrrrr.
7~ Foothills Parkway TN. on the way to --->
8~ Pigeon Forge TN touristy trap onto ----->
9~ Gatlinburg TN. another touristy trap but a great place to spend a few bucks. just a short drive to
10~ Cades Cove TN. Absolutely Beautiful.
11~Chattanooga TN. Tennessee River. and I think still the largest aquarium in the US.
12~ Nashville TN.
Just to name a few of the best.
If you decide to breeze through let me know I'de be happy to show you a few places.

BTW I lived in Tampa for a couple of years , Great Town .
St. Petersburg /Clearwater nice place. all have plenty to do
Also use to vacation at Daytona quite a bit, it's nice too. was better when they had the old boardwalk with all sorts of games , ferris wheel , spook houses, but they tore all that down years ago in favor of some monstrosity ugly ass hotel :yuk:
but the place that sticks out most in my memory besides Disney was the old fort at St.Augustine.
The tour is a neat step back in time. dunno if they still fire the cannons or not.
Flaglar Beach use to be a good place to find seashells back in the 70s :rollside:
