What can anyone tell me about Caliber 1 - 2001 28' Good things, bad things, experiences? Any info would be helpful. Who supplies the motors for them?

my personal preference is to stay far away from them for integrity and ownership reasons, which I guess don't apply to a used boat...most will be Merc powered...

Caliber 1 isn't one of the high end custom boats, but they have gotten some good write ups in various boating mags.

Pretty sure it makes well over 1000 HP? I want to say 1200 or something like that?

I know they are right by my house and it looks like they are working on older boats more than newer ones!!

My neighbor has a 2004 23' - it's a nice boat. 496 mag and it does about a straight 70. A few minor problems here and there, but otherwise a nice boat (it apparently only came with one speed though, WOT, scratch that, WFOT).
The hardest part was getting the boat built and out of the factyory. So ya might be good to go.
