Was looking through a catalog and saw an ad for a Proform carb body. Said that "you can get 25-50 extra horsepower from these Proform main bodies. With no air horn, choke tower, or choke control to restrict airflow".
Just curious. At what rpm would these features really come into play for increased performance? Would it offer any performance benefit at all to a moderately warmed over 454 with a pump that keeps it at 4800 to 5200 RPM?

they work, i've installed them before. if you have the basic holley 4150 carb, you needs this main body to get the flow a boat needs.worth every penny in my opinion.and the driver of the boat reported back a better throttle response with the main body's better boosters, he said its worth twice the cash he paid for it.

I thought it was like a lot of other pieces where you would have to really be turning some high r's to benefit. From what you are saying it sounds like a pretty decent upgrade for $100.
Anybody else have any experience with these carb bodies?

Just buy the whole proform 850 for 400 bucks. Well worth the money and they perform great.

Thats prolly what I should do. Where do you find the 850 for $400? Best price I have found is $550.

I've converted 3 carbs with the Proform carb body. Easily picked up 25 hp (or more) in each case. For $100, you can't beat it.

Click Here (http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2005/10/CarbRebuild) for a pretty good story on swapping out a standard main body for a Proform unit.

What's your opinion on the Proform carb bodies?

I am definitely no expert, but I would go the route that the article described verses buying a new carburetor!!!!!!!!!!! I like the idea of spending less money for the same end result. New carburetors are too expensive. I have never purchased a new carb and don't plan on it!!

It got here today. I'm going to put it together this weekend and give it a try. You're right, saving money for same results is always a good thing to me.
I know you've seen it before but here's what its going on...
