Here's a few shots of Terry Blaire's 73 going through the restoration. We're going for the retro-look on the install with a few updates. Hull is a dark Blue metallic(which will be striped later), inside is flowcoated in black. Metal parts will be Violet Purple and Clear anodized along with some chrome and polish. Motor will be a blown/carb 496 Chevy.

dave i just finished rigging mine and put in the water yesterday for the first time. also feel sorry for you. one of our local racers has a plastic big block chevy set up lazer pointer. the block has inserts in it at all of the standard locations. he has an alumionum shaft mounted in the crank location with a lazer in. also a digital angle finder. my motor is level with drive line angle of 1.5 degress at each end and the motor is perfect center on the v box. your project looks really great. wish i had the $$$$$ to do what you are doing :p

I have a ???. What in in front of the L-bracket on the cav rod? I'm doing a resto on a '72 Biese and the boat had a cable from the handle to the plate. What a joke. Do you think I need a down pedal for a play boat? Your boat is looking good.

All the parts now come out to be detailed before ano and chrome...by the time we get everything back and put back together with plumbing and wiring...probably around 5 weeks??(I gotta a 10day vacation coming up to Hawaii next week too! )

No need to feel SORRY!!! I'm havin' FUN! Set up your buddy has sounds cool...everytime I think about going that direction, I end up staying with what I've used forever. Like the idea of being able to bolt a set of heads and manifold on to make other mounts...My jig is pretty simple...couterbored holes in the panrail that accept some 1/2" allthread, with nuts to adjust and aluminum bar across the stringers...Shaft has less than .0015 clearance into v-drive adapter.

I like a down pedal in all the boats I build or own(except my Crackerbox :crossx: :crossx: ). Just gives you more control in changing water conditions. Here's a shot of the complete override spring assy.

Now I see it. I'm on a different puter today, and my laptops resolution isn't as good as this one. Plastic didn't help either I guess. If I were a seasoned V-driver I wouldn't even have to ask. Thanks for the better shot. Did you make any of those brackets at the springs? Also do you know where I can find polished ss 3/8 cable? Thanks

I make all that stuff, as does Bergeron and Rex...Let me know if you decide to go that route and I'll help you out. Little confused on the polished 3/8ths cable question??? :confused:I wouldn't recommend going back to your old rigging for the cav plate adjustment...Just my .02

No problem on the help!! Glad to hear you're feeling a little better, good luck with the Doc! As far as missing Needles...I feel like I've been there, since I've had a phone call from my buddy, the painter, about everyday and in about every stage of sobriety! My favorite was the one from him and Bolt Nazi at 1:45am SUNDAY MORNING! The wife LOVED that little wake-up call!! To say they had been drinking would be an UNDERSTATEMENT! FRICKEN ROOKIES!!!

Dave; A quick question that flat has the same cav plate as my 76, I've been told that there should be two plates i.e. split in the middle. As far as I know the single plate is the way Jack rigged it in '76' should I change it or leave it?

Larry, take it easy on our secrets please. Dave is the guy I get my inspiration from and the plastic deal only allowed us to finish your project that much earlier but is NOT as accurate as the solid shaft requires it to be. So, you are looking at a far superior labor of love! If you will remember, the lazer bullet would only give us center and not the up and down angle needed for the u-joints. We are merely beginners in camparison and you failed to mention a few others involved with your rigging, A few here on the boards would rip us apart if they saw pictures of our job, just be happy that for NOW it all works well enough!
Thanks for sharing 'Big Wave Dave', each time I see one of your projects, is pure inspiration to me and I am sure others! I also thank MR. CHIEF K-BOAT GUY for his Sanger phone advice when he should have been painting.

Dave the cable is for the steering. I have the same gas pedal and cav handle as you. Glenwood has a down pedal set up that matches, just wondering how much work I'm getting into as a bracket set up would be needed for it. I also need to get the rod for the cav. Thanks

Probably depends on how much horsepower you have. I will be making this plate a 2piece when it comes apart only because it's easier to bend 2 separate plates than 1 single plate and he will be running a 700+ H/P deal. If you just have a ski motor like most of the factory ones came with...I wouldn't worry about it. I would like to figure out sometime how many of those "factory" ski bubble deck were built in the 70's??

Doesn't sound like you are putting a TON of H/P in the thing with the cable steering and all...Might be best just to stay with the handle, forget the fabrication, and go have some fun! :D :D

CHIEF K-BOAT GUY goes and the advice...Don't let anybody around here know that he answers his phone once in a while...Most of the boats in his shop are like babies...They been in there for over 3 TRI-MESTERS!!! Dave my steering looks like yours in the rear, what's under your dash, rack and pinion? We should have 400HP in a 16.5 foot boat, I hope it's a E-ticket. I meant 3/16 cable, sorry.

Just another side note, since we're talking SANGER; Dave would you happen to know, or know somebody that knows what the decoding on my particular HIN is ? It is not in the sanger registery, Mike sent me to John at Cal Custom, and I am still coming up with no luck on it, which is SANGM1920176.
SAN is for sanger, can't find out what G is, I think M is for flat, and it was boat number 192 built in 1976 and I think that all sangers were stamped with the 01 month code. Anyway if anyone knows and could let let me know, that would be very good. Thanks
