OK, went to the sand show and saw a ton of awesome cars and such. the question is, who are the top car builders? there were so many there. hard to tell who are the top builders. so chime in and comment who are the best rail builders.

In my opinion, the three best cars are Extreme, Suspensions Unlimited, and Buckshot. You will end up paying a nice penny for them though.
Come on lottery!!!! :)

IMO....DuneBuggy.com, Alumacraft, Kreger, Penhall. But as you might be able to notice I'm biased towards the more desert/pre-runner oriented cars that IMO are better built.

My friend started his own business a couple years ago building custom sand rails. A few of our friends have had him build theirs and have been very happy. He is a great guy. His business is SNIPER SAND CARS. He was at the sand show. His web site is www.snipersandcars.com .

It all depends on the options you want and how much coin you are willing to spend. I have to say that the new Tatum is sick beefy as hell, Racer (Big Block Power finally someone is getting it right), Buckshot, and Extreme Performance are my fav's and the new stuff that Allstar is turning out is amazing.

The new Sand Limos are very nice. My Uncle has a 2 Seat Long Travel and has been very happy with it.
Funco is a great dune car and people love them. (I don't like the looks personally)

I really like the SU cars. The extreme double throw down is nice, but doesn't turn so well in my opinion. There are soo many buggies mfg anymore. My good buddy's uncle (AL) owns all-star. They make a nice rail as well.
The show was a lot bigger this year. Lot of outside action.

We spent the better part of Saturday there. Although we curently crawl around with our Jeep Rubi I really would like to get a Dual Sport / pre-run car.
Suspensions Unlimited had the nicest Dual Sport IMO.
I think these Dual sport cars will grow in major popularaity as folks get tired of dropping the shit at glamis on Wed for the following weekends trip. Busy.
And it's going to get more impacted. Just look at the show attendance. It was hard to f'n walk.
Money can't be all that tight. Off the hook prices but nice stuff.

I thought the DB.com cars were built by Revenge Racing, they had a picture of that 57 chevy in their booth, but the car was in DB.com's booth??
What do you racers think of that class 1 of Revenge Racings? Some one told me that it has sway bars that can be engaged and dis-engaged on the fly.

No sand limo or Funco?
Whatever you do, don't buy on looks alone. Get a ride in any car before you spend your hard earned cash. For a dune car, you can't beat a Funco. Iown a Gen. 4 Big 5, and my buddy owns the Red full bodied Hustler with all the bling that was in the show. Let me know if you want to go for a ride.
We've had 3 buggy races out in the dunes last season. We ran against the clock on a coned off course that included every type of terrain you'll find in the dunes. All the top manufacturers were represented which included Allstar, Buckshot, S/U, Extreme, Sand Cars Unltd., Sand Limo, Predator, Tatum and Funco just to name a few. In every single race, Funco's smoked the field. Some may say it was the driver, but the winning car was driven by the 17 yr old kid of Grant George. Some of the people he beat was his dad, Justin from Revenge, Andrew Buck, John from Outback, John from S/U, and many more talented drivers. If you went by the glamisdunes.com booth, they were showing the DVD highlights from the races.
While Funco might be the biggest, most blinged out car out there, their reputation is second to none. They been building buggies for 30 years, they're leaders in the sport when it comes to the fight to keep the dunes open, and their customer support can't be beat.

A good friend of ours has owner Funcos for years. I think he is on his fifth or sixth. There must be a reason he keeps going back and the message in your post might just be the reason.
We need a car that will handle the high desert and some of the areas and trails around Havasu, so a pre-runner/dual sport it shall be.

Funco is definitely one of the older players.
Good guys to deal with and they make a very nice product.

Make sure you do your homework when it comes to the pre-runner/dual sport cars. A number of manufacturers will call their car a dual sport. It's basically a sand car with a windshield, full body & roof rack. In all reality, a lot of these so called dual sports wouldn't last 10 minutes in the harsh hard pack desert enviroment. Forget about a nice custom paint job too, even the trails around Havasu will thrash it quickly.

I have been playing in the desert for 35+ years. We have been looking around for the right tool for the job for quite sometime. I'll post up our top three choices in another thread on a different day.
Thank you for your input,
