Go big. 2 hours? Not even broken in yet. Once you get the 525 and have 2 hours on it, is it anywhere near done? NO. So you boat for another hour. Now you have 3 hours on it and left a bigger, newer motor behind.

I think your fiberglass pontoon will sink :rollside:
Rick just buy a Bullet Motor, a nice naturally aspirated FI. 800 hp. :) with a "EXCHANGE" warranty...not a rebuild it warranty.

I'm for sure staying (maybe/I think) with Ilmor or Merc. Who says the new pontoon will be fiberglass?

Why only 2 hours on it? This isn't the motor out of Later's boat is it?:rollside:
I'd have it checked and if everything checks, go for the 625.

See, that's what worries me. Who tested it for two hours and then dumped it?

Excuse the lack of knowledge but, whatever way I go, does the Ilmor hook up to the same outdrives as the 525? Bravo 1, 1X, XR?

From what I've been hearing talking with owners of both......if you are running twins go with the 625....if it's a light boat with a single go with 625.....if it's a heavier boat with a singe go 525. On paper the 625 has more power but I think the 525 does better with lower RPMs/out of the hole feel. There was a good article in powerboat or ***boat awhile back and they actually finished very close to each other. I went with the 525.
Just my $.02,
Chris

The testing was done at the Ilmor factory. That is the only reason it will have a one year factory warranty from time of purchase. Same warranty as one that has no hours. :rollside:

Question is, is the Illmor actually bigger (more torque and h.p.)or just another 502ci motor with higher revs?

Any one remember which issue the test of the two were in? Were they in identical boats on the same day?

DOnt forget if you get the ilmor, you wil need to do some fabricating

Wasn't that article comparing the Ilmor 625 and the 600 SCi? In that article they wrote about VERY comprable numbers. Almost identical with the 600 SCi coming out on top in efficiency too..... well since the time of publication the author of the article has since recanted the info and called it incorrect and printed in error. He continued to say that the Ilmors were in fact SIGNIFICANTLY more efficient and more powerfull than the 600 SCi's as shown in their testing. the Ilmor 625 vs 525 isn't even a choice..... Ilmors hands down. Even if it were Ilmor 625s vs 600 Sci's..... my choice would be the same.

Thanks for the link. So what happens if yo can't get 92 Octane on the water?? Will the computer take care of the motor?

convincor
09-21-2006, 06:14 PM
Anytime you put a lower octane than recomended you will be taking a change on engine failure, no matter what engine it is. The Ilmor does have kock sensors to help, but I would not recomend putting anything less than 92 octane in for more than getting back to the dock. :boxed:
