At this point I think the BelAir will either hold its value or appreciate but the boat will definitely depreciate.
It is a statement of the obvious but a lot of people don’t think about it, A wise man once told me its best to have more of your assets in things that appreciate than depreciate.

I agree w/ all above except that if you are going to sell the car and then go buy a boat, then you might as well trade (if the current values are roughly the same-I have no clue).
I would keep the car too but if it never gets used and you don't consider it an investment then off it.
Let's see...keep a car that sits in the garage taking up space for years on end or buy a boat that my family and firends can use every summer?

I agree, if you are planning on selling anyway, just make sure the values are the same, or add cash to compensate.
I am willing to bet the car is worth much more.
If you are just looking to get rid of the car, please PM me your address so I can come over and slap you.

Then sell it rather than trading it for a 21' boat.

first of all where do you boat and is a 21 going to be the right size boat for you and second on the car in my opinon i think if you where to put stock wheels on that car you could sell it to a old timer a lot faster because the guys who are into the 20's are also into 2 door's and please don't take this the wrong way it is a verry nice car

19,000?
I think you are smoking rocks,
You can't even buy a NEW car for that cheap anymore.
I think you need to have the '55 appraised. Your price may be low.

Then sell it rather than trading it for a 21' boat.
What's the difference? If they're both worth $19,000 (not that I know) who cares if he's trading it for a row boat? Saves all the hassle of selling his car and buying a strangers boat.
The appraisal suggestion is wise....

If it were me,and I wanted a boat,I would sell the car,and pay cash for a boat ...The closer it gets to Christmas.....the better the deal you can get on a used boat

Tell him to give you some cash and the boat on trade. If you don't like the boat, sell it. Your 55 looks clean but it's a 4 door. 4 doors are not nearly as desirable to a lot of car collectors. I don't see a 4 door 55 Bel Air going up a ton in value.

If the guy wants to trade you, get the car appraised, see what his boat is worth, figure the difference and add at least 5 G's... because your car will appreciate in price...the boat won't.

I've thought of trading my car too. But I can replace a boat with a new one a lot easier than I can replace the car. Not a moetary thing, just that there are not many around any more.
