To order one of these, you are looking at approx $9000+ $165 to ship it to So Cal. This is a great buy. If I still have it by the weekend, I will post a pic of all the parts that come with it, Including Whipple's new billet throttle bracket :crossx:

How much HP can be made with this kit?

What do these usually sell for.........

On a 540 hydraulic roller motor, they make up to 950 hp pretty easily on 91 octane. They can make over 1000 hp with a little more boost and 110 octane. Most guys purchase this set up for an 850-900 hp gas motor. The kit sells for over $9000+ shipping and tax usually.

This is the exact same kit on one of my 540's. It made 965 HP at 6100 rpm. This motor resides in New York.

How about a 525 install? Are any other changes required? Re-program or new ecu?

The new 525 kits are very nice. They take some time to install correctly. The entire fuel system and ignition system gets replaced, including the ecu. The smartcraft is eliminated. But when installed properly, they are awesome(IMO). I personally have had nothing but good experiences with my Whipple installations, and everyone I have done is still running strong. :) If the motor is set up right, and the customer has a good understanding of the performance combination he is running,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,with regular services,,,,,it will last a long time :rollside:

What kinda boat is that on...What do you est power/speed? Thanks again!

That looks to be a filter before the pump, and a return line into the "t". It would appear that the water sep filter on the bulkhead feeds the pre-pump filter, and then the pressure line goes out toward the back of the boat and up to the back of the motor. Then, the return line comes back down to the "t" to complete the circuit.
Just a guess.

That is pretty much it. This kit would not work for a 525 for several different reasons, plus you need a lot more parts. The kit you need will be pretty pricey $10-$12K for the kit, depending on which stage and finish you choose. I can't give an installation price without seeing the boat, but I would say most guys spend between $15-17K installed with their new prop, strainer, hoses, and installation. It is a lot of work to do one of these new 525's correctly. The pic is of a Howard 28 Bullet. He runs in the upper 80's with this set up.

So, gary, on a different - but similar - note: You don't run fuel-coolers on your motors, correct? I have never really understood the reasoning on boats, as the engine compartment doesn't get (better not be) THAT hot. Maybe carbureted where the fuel stays somewhat stagnant in the line, but on an EFI motor that is constantly circulating the fuel, I wouldn't see such a need.
On yours, it is a different story from a normal HO as fuel for your motors would not remain in the engine compartment long enough to collect heat :D

I don't usually run a fuel cooler, because most of the boats I put motors in have a belly tank, so the fuel is normally the same temp as the water the boat is in(respectively). The NA motors are a little more finicky, and I will run coolers on them, just to mimimize any potential problems and maximize power.
HEY SOMEBODY BUY THIS KIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :crossx:

Gary, would you sugest doing any additional work to a 525 enternaly if it had say 150 well maintained hours on it? Should the heads come off?
Is this all bolt on stuff?

TPI
10-07-2006, 03:05 PM
The 525 kit is a bolt on application. I might consider changing the valve springs, if it has seen a lot of rpms over the 150+ hours. Some guys like to change the head gaskets, I personally do not. There were a few 525's out there that were recalled for improper head bolts, but that is about it. The current 525 kit is as good as it gets. The 525 motor is a great foundation for the upgrade. The key is to install the kit correctly and not to cut any corners. All my Whipple customers are happy. :)

How mch time do you need to instal one if we included changing out the springs?
Also I have a Mach 26, how much more clearnce is required for the hatch?
And are sea strainers needed?
Sorry for all the questions just trying to get an overal picture what this is going to do to the pocket book.

I personally would run two sea strainers, one for the engine and one for the intercooler. Plan on a half a day for the springs(R&R headers, brackets, valve covers, rockers, springs). These days, a lot of guys are removing the engine from the boat for the kit, because there is just so much work to do around the engine now on the 525. It is really the best way, plus it minimizes the potential damage that can be done from climbing all over the boat. The labor cost doesnt change that much. The new kit will be a little higher than the current headers(1/2-1") but the hatch will be the closest toward the back of the boat. I have a really cool scoop for you, if you need one :crossx:

Gary, thanks for the information. I have a pretty good idea what the overall cost will be. I will get in touch with you after the first of the year and check your schedule. The boat is located in Havasu so I would need to drag it here to get the work done. Do you have Insisde or outside storage?
