I just got back from the dentist. 2 cavities and an inlay about a month ago. With good insurance it still cost me 600 bucks. They just took out the temp cement/filling and god dammm! It hurt. They had to numb me up because they kept hitting the nerves. IÂ’m developing an irrational fear of them evil bastards. There's something wrong about two people with tools digging and scraping in your mouth. So here I sit drooling on my self until this crap wears off.. :220v:

I'm due for a semi-annual lecture/torture session... I won't let the fockers pull my wisdom teeth... pisses 'em off... :D Until I have problems with them, they are staying...
That and sadomasocistic hygenists they hire anymore, make it no fun.

I'd love to have your dentist woes. I just had 4 wisdom teeth pulled and it cost me $1700 with good insurance (I work for the federal gov't). I'll get a big chunk of that back but still.... WTF am I paying insurance for anyway.

F- you all.
I don't hurt my patients, and if you took as much care of your teeth as you do your boat that wouldn't be an issue. Don't get me started on your bitching about fees, how much does it cost to run your boat for a year--and you can't eat with it. :rollside:

A tooth is much smaller than a boat. Repair bills should be proportional to size (based on the boat repair bill of course).

Dentists are CHEAP ASS MOFO'S!!!!
But Seriously: Take care of your shit and your shit will take care of you! It is a proven fact: Silver or "amalgam" fillings will break your teeth! They expand and contract differently than the enamel and will cause chips and cracks in material that is very "glass-like" = Yo Teef! The tooth will more than likely break away from the filling, leaving the hunk of metal chillin with jagged enamel edges!
Oh and floss works! Either up the ass or between the teeth...it WORKS!!! Try brushing those puppies 2 to 3 times a day and "TRY" to prevent the hassles of going in and seeing a F'in Dentist!
A person's mouth is usually a good indicator as to how good of shape the rest of the "ship" is in....
BRUSH YO TEEF BITCHES!!!!!

I'm not a wimp....I've been rock climbing and all. But the dentist just terrifies me. Dr.Pearson says it's because of a previous "bad" dentist experience. He is really good. He says he gets SWAT guys in there that are just as afraid as I am.
Once we were caught in this horrible storm on lake powell in our little 19 foot sea ray and I decided that THAT was worse than going to the dentist. But I haven't been in a storm lately....
Have a good day!

It must be back the dentist time...
I'll try to keep this short,
Went to dentist for the first time in 10 years last month(ya I know)
Last time I went the fawker about killed me with the root scalling crap and I have not enjoyed a steak with out a tooth pic since.
I knew when I walked in they would try and get me with the scalling crap again.
1 small cavity(real small) after 10 years without seeing a dentist. But guess what? You guessed it, root planning. I say Ok, fine, I need a teeth cleaning anyway. Well after they start they inform me I need some Aristin injections to help relieve the infection and promote the closure of the pockets. That will only cost $2500 outside of your ins. Ok I say do it. ( knowing I have a problem with the gums but still feeling like I'm getting fawked. I later fined out the injections cost the dentist $9.00 each)
So last week follow up. I work with numbers all day. I can't spell but I can remember numbers like no one. Knowing I'm gonna see the specialist the next week(today) I pay close attention to the sizes of the pockets in relation to where we started and where I am now. Not much improvement but hey guess what no bleeding and no infection..
So here I am about two hours ago sitting in the chair knowing what the guys gonna say before I ever see him. Lucky me I am also good at easedropping and can hear the good doctor in the next room talking with a potential victim.
I hear the whole story about how termites are eating his gums and he's gonna lose his teeth.
Well guess what?
Haji walks in and spends 3 min.'s poking a long sharp object into my gums causing much discomfort and bleeding. (If I ram a sharp thin object in to your body anywhere you are going to bleed). Here's the best part. He' calling out numbers that do not match the amount of times he is poking me. I have been through this 4 times in a month now so I pretty much get the poking and number calling. HHHMMMMM>...
The pokes don't match the numbers and he is moving fast.
Now I know for a fact the location of the problem spots. I have two teeth in the back that have deep pockets with one poke on each side yeilding a cry of 9 from every one that has done this too me. I also have a 6 right between my 2 front teeth. Othere then that the back teeth are pretty much all 4's and the front are all 2's
Funny thing, he called out the 2- 9's correctly because they are the starting point. But he called out the 6 as a 4 and all my 2's as 4's he turned all my 4's into 6's.( my mouth went to hell in a hand basket in a week?)
My mouth is a fawkin mess because he's jamming this piano wire into my body. I then get the whole speal about how I'm gonna lose all my teeth and likely die prematurly from heart disease if I don't get his surgery and quickly.
So I tell him I need a second opinion. I was not rude, I just said I always get a second opinion before surgery. He gets up and storms off saying the nurse will be into see me.
This whole thing took 5 min. Including the 30 seconds he looked at my exrays.
Scam? You be the judge.
I hate people that use fear to sell a service or product. As I walk out I hear the same speal being sold in the next room down the line. I'll take my chances on the early death thing. I'm sure the beer and stress is doing more damage to my body then a few pockets in my gums.
Next time I get a service call at a dentist's house he's gonna need a repipe. Damn pipes are just rotten doc where gonna have to demo! :boxed:

I think a good dentist is worth the money. I value my teeth as much as I do my twig and berries. My problem is from when I was a kid. I had braces in Jr. high and some cavities after they took them off. Now every other year they have to go back and re do a cavity with the new white filling instead of the metal. I think I only have 1 left. Not much I can really do about it.
prosthogod,
Someday when we finally move out there we'll be coming to you.
It's such a bummer having to spend so much money on something you take for granted. Dental insurance should be a lot better.

OOOOO it get's better. I 've been told that the metal fillings expand more. Over time they can crack the tooth and then you'll need a root canal. Also the metal fillings are porous and allow bacteria to seep so you can get a cavity under the filling. From bad to worse. I'd get 1 done per year if I were you. Girls are a lot prettier with a mouth full of teeth. :D

Some quick education-from a specialist:
1- if you have perio. issues, go to a periodontist.
2-if you have broken/missing/crown issues see a prosthodontist(me)
3-silver amalgam fillings do have have coeficients of thermal expansion diferent than natural tooth structure, but not significant enough to cause issue. They only last 20-40yrs. The american Dental Association has no issues with amalgam according to research-so it's good with me.
4-any one trying to sell you anything is a scam-your diagnosis will dictate treatment. Whether you dicide to do it or not is your disicion.
5- my typing sucks and my spelling is worse- but my crown preps can't be beat!

I used to work for an awesome periodontist in Fremont, Ca.
Guess who he had sharpening his instruments???? Yours truely!
If you have perio problems it is MUCH cheaper to invest your time and money into a qualified dental hygienists skills than it is to throw A LOT of hard earned cash at a Periodontist, in my opinion. Arenstin does Work!!! I used to be sooooooooo fawkin skeptical, but after using it for well over 3 years on moderate to severe cases of periodontitis, I am a believer!
As long as your DENTIST is compentent and you have a good vibe while in the office, it is very likely that that person, THE DENTIST, has a team that is as competent as he/she! If Haji or Baljeet is jumpin from room to room sellin shit, RUN! All insurances SUCK ASS!!!! Car, boat, house, disability....YOU name it, but if your insurance sucks well that is too bad, it is yours and you should talk to your employer/union and make some changes! Insurance is just that... insurance, it is and never will be a 100% covered benefit, and if it is, hold on tight, chances are it will change... it is a benefit that many NEVER use!!! WTF!!!????
Moreover, lets say you do go to a Periodontist, put down the cheddar for perio surgery and have good results.....that periodontist is going to want you to come back to HIS office for "perio-recalls" or 3 to 4 month visits for cleanings.... who do you think you will see? The Dentist? WRONG!!! You will see the hygienist who works for that periodontist...I know!!! I worked for the periodontist and two of his referring dentists while I worked in Fremont...
OH, and guess what? "Healthy gums DO NOT bleed!!!" No matter how you "probe" them...going back to what I said earlier....IF Nalramjit is "hurting" you while he is probing your teeth, F'in RUN!!! I do that shit all day and have tactile sensitivity of a bad-motha-fawka! I am a light-handed beeeeyotch! and if your dentist/hygienist isnt, then you have the right to ask them why the fawk it is hurting soooooo damn much, BUT if you are going to ask them this while your gums are ooooozing copious amounts of red nectar known as blood, shut up, sit back, and PLEASE, get ed-ju-ma-kated....!!!! and yes, there are systemic diseases and conditions that can be elevated and triggered by Perio-disease....esp....DIABETES!!!(ie....MUCH harder to control)
So it sounds like some peoplez needs ta recognize and get in and "use" that insurance to its fullest extent...
I love to help people and I love to see the changes that occur from start to finish, just like a good paint job...you gotta get to some good "healthy" material and build up from it...
OH and YES!!! Amalgam fillings suck ass!!! so do metal crowns!!! IF your dentist has an intra oral camera, have them take some good close up pics of the molars and or premolars and tell me what you think...SHIT SUCKS!!! and yes it does cause cracks and problems...Think of a wedge splitting rounds of wood and the amount of pressure that we can exert while we chew, clench, and grind throughout the day and night...
For you that have food impaction and suffer from shit getting stuck between the areas between them post deep cleaning...guess what? it is a lot better than having disease infesting bacteria that is living/breeding/ and oh yeah, shitting all over your teeth!!! That is what bacteria does: it eats the simple sugars that we supply it with that is broken down by the saliva in our mouth, by salivary amylase, and then that bacteria hunkers down and parties while you sleep, breath, and do your normal every day chores. OH, your bacteria love you even more the fewer times you brush...so for you one-a-dayers, This ones for you!!!

Where the hell did you go to school-Cracker-Jack U. You don't know what the hell you are talking about. Every hygienist who has worked for me thought she knew everything, in fact they are overpaid, slightly more educated assistants. Don't get on here telling the public your opinions with no factual data what so ever.
Educate the public with the truth, not your opinion!

You crack me up! You MUST be one of the "older" "old-school" dentists who is a tight ass with his money. A Great hygienist is a practice builder :FACT!
I DO Educate with the TRUTH! Funny how you cant see any of it in my original post....You must be some "Western-Dental-Like-Hack" of a Dentist...
Peace out Doc!!! :crossx:

 As an RDA, CDA, getting into Hygiene school.. I think you need to research your "Opinion" of how supporting team members affect the dental practice/community!
A Great hygienist is a practice builder :FACT!: :)

Good luck in hygiene school Miss Assests...it will go by quick and be totally worth it, as long as you dont have to end up working for some FAWKER like PROSTHOBIOTCH
Dont let his attitude disrupt your course...I am sure you know what I mean if you have been assisting in the field. There are more spoiled, up-tight, big-ego dentists out there than there are good family valued ones.
Come on....just because you can hold a high speed hand instrument and shove it up against a tooth and prep it for a crown/bridge, DOES NOT mean that you are in any way in the same category as GOD....GET REAL!
Smooches!!! :)
