Where's the Tahitis?

Hey guys, just joined here, thought I'd see if there were any other Tahiti's on here. I picked mine up in April of this year, and it's been a blast so far. It's a 1973 Tahiti 16' Sidewinder, with a 1973 Chrysler 130 HP O/B. I don't have any recent pics of it because of a computer that decided to crash, but here are a few of when I bought it.

It has changed a bit though. I built a custom glove box to cover the huge hole on the left side, added a radio to where the water and volt gague were, got rid of the useless depth gague, moved the volt and water temp gagues up, put in a new (working) tach, SeaFoamed the motor, and lots and lots of Meguairs :rollside:

So I've got a Torino? I was just told by a few people that it "looked" like a Sidewiner, but thanks. Who cares, I love this damn boat...would you believe me if I said I got it for $1400? All that was wrong with it was the rotten seat frames. :)

As a child, my dad owned this exact boat, but it had a brown/copper color scheme....Sometime in the near future im going to head out to my home town to see if the guy still has the boat and try to buy it back. he dumped a shitload of money into the engine and blew it up the first time out and it was still sitting on the side of his house (untouched) when we moved 4 years later.

One piece of trivia. My understanding is, that 16 ft hull is the same hull (splashed with permission I hope) as the Glasstron Carlson hull, cut down a bit to lower the deck. That hull (the Carlson) still holds the world record for the longest boat jump, from the chase scene in Live and Let Die.

Hmmm... I have noticed that they do look similar, but I haven't gotten the opportunity to compare them yet. Also, here's a few updated interior pics:

Schuster 'borrowed' a new glastron to pull a mold from the bottom from a dealer he knew. Gil Gaska, who met Schuster when they both were laminators at Power Cat boats, made the little targets and glued them to the side of the glastron. Afterwards, they cleaned up the glastron, popped off the targets and returned the boat. And no, he didn't have permission.
The Glastron bottom wasn't a Glastron 'Carlson', I don't think Art Carlson had begun his association with Glastron yet...this was in '64, but it was glastron's new and much touted 'aqua lift' bottom.
here's an early 1965 Tahiti showing off it's target. Hundreds and hundreds of 16 Tahiti's, jets, outboards and I/Os, came out of the shop with this same paint design. Bottom of target is of course in the mold, the top part isn't but the design doesn't work as well with out the top half...imho. :)

that paint scheme is VERY similar to this '69 wriedt stinger.....
on second look....I'd say they are the same exact hull....

I have a 73 tahiti. its 19ft.
Currently under restoration, and i dont have an pics of it yet.
droped a 351 into it a few years back, and rebuilt the outdrive about 4x before i got it right.

Had a 72 Tahiti 16 with a Chrysler 105. Not fast but it took rough water great for a light boat. I was young and stupid. Used to jump cruiser wakes on the delta with it. No hull flex what so ever. Boy, thost Chrysler outboards were dogs.

It is a tough little SOB, it gets bouncy in rough water, but still handles itself well. My 130 is a dog too out of the hole, but it'll do about 50 - 55 MPH and it's DAMN reliable.
And Wicked, that's a sweet boat. Get some pics of it now!
