We live in Northern Va and do the 4 hour drive down to Smith Mt. lake every other weekend during the summer if not more. Are we crazy? :hammerhea
Sure there are closer lakes to us but why do the people in Southern Cal drive all the way to Havasu and Mead versus the lakes that are closer? I think some of the reasons we do it might be the same
Charlottesville, VA is the half way point for our drive and we go right through it. With the new speed limits on Rt. 29 it's right at 2 hours of easy no traffic driving from Charlottesville. :)
Here is how we spent last weekend at Smith Mt. Lake

Thanks for the replies.
I live in La Quinta , CA ( Palm Springs area), my wife wants to move closer to her family.
Charlottesville keep coming up.
So I am curios where people can boat.
I drive 2 hours to Parker and 2:45 to Lake Havasu all summer long.
What is the boating season in VA?
Are these lakes popular like Havi?
