I need some info about Tahiti... which island is the best and why. The wife surprised me last weekend by telling me she was taking me to Tahiti for my _0th birthday. It's always been a dream of mine to just hang on the beach in Tahiti and watch the waves come in. Done it in Maui a couple times, and unless you go to MacKenna, there's too many people around.
Where and why?

The Sheraton in Moorea and Pearl Resort in Bora Bora are both awesome. Both islands are much nicer than Tahiti. Both islands also have a lot of activities you can do.

Tahiti is great and relaxing just very quiet at night. Stay in a hotel that is on stilts over the water. Bora Bora is smaller them Moorea.
Club Med isn't bad I stayed there the first time I went Tahiti

tahiti is awesome. i have some good friends there. Moorea is beautiful and relaxing. i strongly recommend that island. outside of the resorts it seems very run down, but if you are into exploring new things you will have fun. oh yeah and the french are all over that place and they are a$$holes.

I recomend Moorea and Bora Bora. We went for our honeymoon 4 years ago and stayed at the beachcomber. Moorea is incredable. Do the island truck tour and feed the black tip reef sharks. Also take a suit case full of food and snacks. Our food bill was 1k. We've since been to Fiji and Belize and nothing compare to the tahiti islands.I'll never forget that trip.

We spent 10 days on 5 islands, but it was on a cruise so the ship was our hotel each night. Everything was good. Don't miss Bloody Marys...

I stayed in Bora Bora for 5 days. Beautiful doesn't even describe it. But EXPENSIVE does....bring a ton of money.

Went 8 years ago for our honeymoon. Did the Moorea, Bora Bora thing but my best time was on the atoll of Rangiroa. Stayed at the Kia Ora village in an over the water bungalow. The coffe table had a flip up glass lid so when your done with your biscuits and scones in the morning pinch off chuncks and pitch them to the triggers and angelfish. Stairs and a floating deck make snorkeling easy for first timers.
Don't forget to visit Bloody Mary's on Bora Bora and you can pay one of the fisherman to pull you around on a ski over that beautiful lagoon water.

The father in law has a time share that lets us pick what island, but the accomodations are already chosen. We pay the airfare, food, etc. Decades ago I remember seeing pics of Bora Bora and Moorea and dreaming about going there. Come to think of it, I still have to do last year's present... 2 days at Frank Hawley's drag racing school. Only took 50 years and a great wife. I think I'll keep her.... :D

I could not agree with you more bud... We stayed in Bora Bora at Le Meridian as well for 4 days. We stayed in the middle over the water bungalow in the pick the gray goose posted.... I can not wait to get back. Nothing like doing nothing but relaxing. We took a Radio, bottle of Vodka and snacks as well, it sure does help. I would recommend the Waverunner tour that leaves from the hotel... it is bitchen and the guy takes you to his home via water for a cocktail...... I could go on for ever....

All the French Poynesian islands are awesome. Tahiti more crowded and more evidence of litter than the others. If you stay on Tahiti itself, I would recommend The Beachcomber. Super place.

We spent 4 days in Moorea at the Sheraton and it was very nice. The island is very nice and lot's of touristy things to do. I recommend the whale watching/swimming with sharks and stingray tour.
Best part of our trip was Bora Bora. We stayed at the Bora Bora Lagoon Restort but ANY place on that island is beautiful. Make sure to visit Bloody Mary's in Bora Bora, you can NOT beat the food there.
PS: We stayed 9 days on those islands and EVERYONE was nice. Don't believe what you hear about French being rude. If you're cool, everyone is cool with you. Have fun and enjoy the Hinano Beer, and the inter island flights.....they're a blast!
