20' open bow, v- bottom with a pad. 6000RPMs, 1.29 gear, 11 1/4" X 16 three blade Menkens prop. 99 to 101MPH (depending on the wind). Motor has gone 6700RPMs in this boat.

11 1/2 x 16 with lightened 1.32 gears. 109.8 at Lake Ming through the lights with only a 10.8:1 compression on a 408ci - no blower or nitrous. :rollside:

Your running a hydro right? Is that why your running a 11 1/2 prop? Thats awsome what RPM?

MY boat is 19ft Kinsvater. It has 12% gears 11 1/2 15 prop @6400 and it runs 82 MPH. Brazos is the boat your speaking of in your avatar? If so it looks like a TR 4, I would think it would run faster than 84 MPH with those numbers and if it is a runner bottom it should have a lot less drag in turn be more efficient. It looks like a really nice boat.

It is a TR-4 , My motor is 9 years old and only pushing maybe 500 HP.
The boat was set up for Blown motor when I got it, Motor plate at 36 inches from Transom . I know I need to move motor back a couple of inches to free it up a little. I thought I leave it like this until I get used to the boat . Then start adjusting to free it up . Once I freshen the motor and see where it rides, then I will move the motor around a little.
Right now my slippage is around 18-20 % , Way too much ..
Thanks for the compliment , I like it a lot.
Alway can use some good advice.

this is how much i know about this topic. 25's in the box, 11x17, 7200r's in a 3000lb 20ft v bottom tug, and that wasn't enough to hold off the k/v305 onslaught.

"Brazos" if you have a BB Chevy in the boat, DON"T MOVE THE MOTOR. If needed, move the prop. 36" is correct for BB Chevys in those hulls! Don't let anyone mess you up, 36"!

My old turbo boat used to run right at 70 on GPS at a 4000 rpm cruise with a 10.5 x 16 Menkens 3 blade and 1.29's in the box.
More throttle resulted in tail lift, followed by bow steer, followed by a change of underwear, so I never knew how fast it was capable of.....

Yes the motor is a BBC ,
When you say move the prop , forward or back ??
I know you can use nickles to move it back , I can not move forward unless I cut the strut down a little, only have about 1/8 clearance now.
Maybe with a little more HP , that will help free it up also ..
Thanks for the advise, sound like you know TR-4s

I am hearing some 3 blades are the way to go in some applications. Can a 3 blade keep up with a 2 blade? I know the vibrations are a lot less. So whats up?

Kurtis 501 hydro, 11.125 x 17 precision prop, 7600 rpm, 40's in the box gets 137 mph, 48's will run about 141 or so. Totally different from a flatty once the prop starts climbing out of the water.

11X16 RB prop, 18 gears 7600rpm, 123 mph, Canyon Flat.

Brazos I agree with Detroit 36" is a golden number for that set up. I'm curious does your boat porpous at speed or does it take a set. You said the boat used to be set up with a blower motor. So it is possible that the strut is set up to far foward.

It will take a set after it is wide open and I get off the pedal easy .
If I come off the pedal to quick , it will porpose then .
I think I just need more HP to spin the prop harder and faster .. ???
It still has the original prop stamp "Cole " BGF( blown gas flat) 11x16..
Where should the strut be ? I have not measured that ..

not to steal the thread but i just wanted to add one more question. all variables being correct, what kind of horsepower do you need to push an 18ft flatty to 100 mph (roughly)?
I think a good set up and around 600-650 HP should get you there .
But I am still learning , .

Given the fact that flatbottoms come in many different shapes and sizes and weights, performance can not be generalized so easily.
Remember, runnerbottoms are considered flatbottoms.
This non runner "true flat" Biesemeyer ran 121 mph from 640 hp.

Put all the variables into a hydro" hp X gears X prop = MPH????"
