View Full Version : What is the longest...................

What is the longest (distance) trip you've ever been on in your own boat.
I would LOVE to launch at one end of Lake Powell, drive down, stopping in at each little marina. Spend the nights boat camping and boat hoteling, from one end of Lake Powell to the other.
Begin at the top and end up at Wawheap......(sigh)
Wouldn't that be cool?
What other lakes can you do that with?
:D

We go to Powell and one year our houseboat was broken down, so we just stayed on it in the marina. Took the Skater up for day trips and one day we went all the way to Bullfrog. Long day, but wonderful.
Lake Mead is just about as big as Powell. Not as pretty and the "legs" aren't as crazy long, but it is a big lake travelwise. We have a slip there, in fact we'll be there camping this weekend.

I once went from the Bluewater hotel up to the Parker dam.....
Furthest for me in our current boat was that ATTDR. Davis to Hoover and back

I've done that. Took us a week... about 2 and half days down and 2 and half days back up.
Started at Hite (which is dry right now), went to Halls Creek the first night, then the San Juan arm the second, and then down to Page on the third, messed around and then hauled ass back up to the San Juan. Didn't actually go all the way to the dam though. Camped at Hansen Creek on the way back up, and then back to Hite on the final day.
It was a long, fun, expensive week. :D

We've done Park Moabi to Havasu to this side of the parker dam:D We've done Long Rock Beach to Dangling Rope Marina, Lone Rock to Navajo Canyon, Lone Rock to Rainbow Bridge (in our little 19ft sea ray) We've done Cookie Jar to Awazansi Canyon....and we've done the dam run Katherines to Hoover, Katherines to Willow Beach.
We are long boat trip junkies.............my idea of a good time is to be in my boat going fast!
I've always wanted to do Powell, and stop along the way, each day.
Isn't it too big to do the whole lake in one day? From Wahweap to the most northern point (is that Hite or Bullfrog?)
:D

They used to do a marathon ski trip,, Hite to Wahweap, non stop,,, 138 miles. I don't think they have done it for like 15 years though.
Anytime anyone wants to do a long trip on Powell, let us know. We are going to do the lake for the week prior to the Powellfest this year. We've done the Bullfrog to Wahweap via the dam for a day trip a few times. By the time we get back to Bullfrog there's not much gas left. Dangling Rope doesn't sell premium!
You have to figure that is only about 4 hours of straight driving at 55mph.
We've also been to Hite (or what was left of Hite) and down to Wahweap and back to Padre Bay in a single day.
Some days you just travel from point A to point B a little faster.

90 miles or so.
Possible, depends on the time of year.
Yes, and a resteraunt.
No.
You'll have to get the locals intel on that, but I believe it depends on the water level.

WOW! How did you get over Davis Dam? :rollside:
We've done Davis to Hoover a few times. Anyone else part of the penguin club at Hoover? Man that water is cold.
Last summer we camped at Overton (is there still water there for this summer?) The wife and I did Overton to Hoover one day, then Overton to the River inlet the next. Awsome week on Mead.
Next to that would have to be the Houseboat trip on Trinity Lake. I don't think the lake was that big, it just seems that way at 15 miles per hour!

That is what I want to do, Antelope is outside the channel, so it's quicker than Wawheap (until the lake gets higher) up to BullFrog and spend the night.
:D
How far is Bullfrog from Dangling Rope? (I need to go get my maps out of the boat)
The mississippi sounds cool
:D
What about the great lakes?

I would like to do a trip all the way down the Mississippi some year. who's up for that?
You really don't want to go all the way down. South of St. Louis it is just a barge canal with up to 240 miles between fuel stops. From St. Louis up to Dubuque, IA is nice but from Dubuque up is land that the glaciers did not touch. Steep hills with light mist in the am and small towns every 20 miles with great food and plenty of fuel stops.
I burned 550 gallons in the 700 mile trip and gas was averaging $2.69.

Dangling Rope is 40 miles from the dam and Bullfrog is 58 miles from Dangling Rope. :rollside:

When we get together on the Nor Cal Delta it is not uncommon for us to put 110 to 120 miles of water under us in a day. We start with breakfast and will stop for lunch and the last stop is for cocktails. It makkes for a nice day. You guys should come up and join us sometime.

Brian you are correct. Gennerally north of Guttenburg. Our group is made up of people from IA, WI, IL & MN. So this area is a central spot for all involved. We hangout usually on the big sand bar right straight across from Wyalusing, WI state park on the main channel. Haven't been down through the Bellevue dam in years. One of the guys here at work wants me to come down to the Le Claire area were he runs out of this summer.

:D
Hi Deb! We've done the Wahweap to Hite trip in one day in our 19' boat with a storm 1/2 way through, it was brutal, it was fun, pretty, nice :220v: . Have no desire to do it again though, but glad we did it once!
