1.7x +8 -1.62x = 0.4x +7.68 Solve for X.
Steps would be nice....7th grade math.... :mad:
My mistake, the + and the = are on the same key..does that help. I've been doing alright helping out till we got to this one :rolleyes:

Are you sure you typed that correctly? Might the problem read:
1.7x +8 -1.62x + 0.4x =7.68 Solve for X????
If so, combine all the X variable items and set them equal to 7.68-8...

You have too many = signs re check the problem

X=1.
All of the items on the left with an x can be added together, 1.7-1.62=.08X
Now we have .08X+8=.4X+7.68
Now isolate the X's by subtracting .08X from both sides.
do this and you will have 8= .32X+7.68.
Subtract 7.68 from both sides and you have .32=.32X.
Test it out by placing a 1 in place of the X's in the original equation.

Do whatever you have to do in order to get your e"X" by herself.. :D
1.7x +8 -1.62x = 0.4x +7.68 Solve for X.
1.7x -8 +8 -1.62x = .4x + 7.68 - 8
Whatever you do to one side of = you have to do to the other in order so isolate x
you now have
1.7x-1.62x = .4x + -.32
1.7x-1.62x-.4x= .4x-.4x-.32
1.7x-1.62x-.4x= -.32
-.32x= 1.68
-.32x/-.32=-.32/.-32
x= 1
or somethinglike that...lol

So x = 1 ? that would be tricky of them

So x = 1 ? that would be tricky of them
Basically, move all number without a variable to one side of the equal sign, making them the opposite of what they were. .4 becomes -.4 . Then combine numbers, making your .32x on one side and .32 on the other. now since .32 is times x, do the opposite to remove it from the equation. Which is divide, .32 divided by .32 is 1 so on one side you have 1x or one times x which of course is x and on the other side you have .32 divided by .32 which is also 1, so 1x or x equals 1. Make the kid bring home the math book, you can read through the examples and pick up again pretty quick. :D
