On the internet.
It confirmed again my reason for watching closely what my daughter does on the internet after watching Wife Swap last night.
One family had a 12 yr old daughter that had very provocative photos of herself on a website(i'm presumming MySpace type).....including info that said she was 16.......
She was a budding 12 yr old with plenty of makeup that made her look at least 16........
How phucking scary!!!! :220v:
.
Just a reminder not to blindly trust your kids when on the web for all you parents.

I have never heard of the "wife swap" show, but it sounds like it's only natural for an HB forum member to watch :D

i found out a niece of mine had a "myspace" site from my oldest daughter.. now she didn't have any sexy pics.. but poster her full name, birthdate, address, phone number, class schedule etc.. etc... her mother has since removed it. most kids only think that their friends will be the only ones to see it.

I think they tried a special "Hot Boat" edition....but after all the editing to make it acceptable for network TV.......the show was only 2 minutes long. :D
Yea, I think hello and goodbye would be about all you'd see :D

They did that squigly screen thing when it came to most details...some of the pics did show but they never mentioned the screen name either, which the parents demanded be changed to something less provocative as well.
.
Roz, the show trades wives of two different households with generally 180 degree different lifestyles for two weeks. First week the wife lives by the house rules, second week she gets to make all the rules and/or changes.
90% of the time each family learns to make some changes to either ease up on regimine or by more strict on some things...quite eye opening sometimes...........and entertaining at the same time.

If ya really want to know what they are up to down load a screen capture program . Some may consider it an invaison of privacy, but I condidered it knowing what the hell was going on in my house! They can be sneaky little deceptive buggers at times (and nieve) .and all kids get themselves in shit at one time or another ..I feel it's our job as parents to let them learn some on their own..but cut them off at the pass before they do somthing really stupid
The wife swap show is kinda funny escpecially when trailer trash goes high class and visa versa :D Anyone see the one where high class lady made the trailer trash man and his kids clean up all the dog shit in thier back yard ?

I have a 17 year old daughter not interested in surfing the net other than her designer clothing site's. Her friends come over and take the laptop out and they are all over Myspace and what not...I offerd to help my kid log-in but she wasnt interested? Go figure as a kid I would have been all over that...Just lucky I guess.

You're right on the money Hooli, give kids some space to learn and grow. The internet is something new to this generation, so we're learning as we go too. Just need to keep 'em safe from the kooks and keep an open line of communication.

I used it for a bout a year on the kid and once I found out and belived he was using commom sence I took it off!

BoatCop had a very good thread about this exact subject a while back, only he talked about stupid things parents do as well. For example, every day I see people who have their kids' first and last names plastered on the back window of their cars as well as the school name, sport/team and player number. Now a complete stranger knows where your kid goes to school, what his name is, what sport he plays and even what number he is!!!
As far as the computer thing, they have several programs that will track keystrokes or passively listen for certain words. IMO, when you are responsible for a minor and said minor is living under your roof there is no such thing as "privacy" when it comes to you protecting them. The only rights they have are to food, shelter and clothing. That's not saying you should strip search them daily, but under reasonable suspicion I don't believe it's wrong to go through any of their belongings to find the truth. It might save your family or their life.

I agree 100 % For some reason ( and I'm gonna catch flak for this)this has stuck in my head. I was watching Roseanne with the wife one night. It was a typical child parent fight and the young girl stormed up stairs and slammed her door . When Dan went upstairs and said Dont slam the door and clean your room She said : its my door and my room and i dont want to clean it..His response was " no this is my room ..in my house and your just using it"
We have a right to invade their privacy in order to know that they are on the right track !

I never got why people do that other than to be proud of their kids(rightfully), but in todays society we have to watch everything we do that can expose our families.

They need that space to grow in maturity, we are just their sheppards who watch over them. I can deal with the resistance from her and 99% of the time she will realize I'm right.

Makeup should be age determined and used sparingly to start.......we parents often are to blame for trying to make them grow up faster than they should.
There are wacko's that like boys too...just be smart about it...check them now and then to reassure yourself.....sometimes they end up on sites they never intended and it goes from there..

My kiddo is 9 he only plays Pokemon online. He doesn't do interactive personal info stuff yet. He shows no interest in it. I admit I do like to show his picture, mention his name, mention his age and birthday. Maybe it all is TMI. Hard not to be proud of the kiddos and share about them with friends online - and easy to forget that just as many strangers (good and bad) are looking on also. :squiggle:
