A 567 is 4.250 inch bore with a 5in stroke. A 569 is 4.310 bore with a 4.875 stroke.

So if someone is trying to sell me a 568 I should doubt that they know what they have?

Just ask what the bore and stroke are. Then get worried if they do not match up. A very common and good running engine is a 572. A true 4.50 x 4.50. If he measured pistons rather than the bore, it would come out to 568. Or maybe there was a set of pistons somewhere just under the 4.500 number and underbored by a touch. Or maybe the guy cannot type and tried 468 which is very common. (60 over 454)
Just ask. The big deal is if he has the right parts. Because 50% of the time you buy a completed engine from an individual, you are just buying the parts. What crank, heads, block, etc? That will determine if it is worth it. And let us know when you get that info. We will help.

you can get pistons made to any size you want. 4.610, 4.6125, etc. i wouldn't doubt the 568 number at all, but the builder should be able to tell you what the bore/stroke is?
