I don't think the Potomac River has had any fresh water in it for a couple hundred years! :rolleyes:

The potomac is definitely salt water.

D.C. and below is brackish tidal water, D.C. to above Great Falls is not navigable. Locals go to Dam 4 near Hagerstown and there are various navigable areas up to Berkley Springs.

The Potomac River runs from Cumberland MD to Washington DC. It borders the states of West Virginia and Maryland. The river it self belongs to the state of Maryland, and the Maryland DNR patrols the waterway.
There are two sections of the Potomac, the Upper Potomac and the Lower Potomac. The Lower Potomac is below Freat Falls and the Upper Potomac is above Great Falls. There are several dams on the Upper Potomac that you can navagate small water crafts. The dams are numbered and the largest navagational waterway on the Upper Potomac iis above dan #4. This being about 12 miles or so. The second largest ins above Dam #5, this being about 10 miles or so. The Lower Potomac can handle some pretty large boats and goes into the Chesapeake Bay.
Like stated above there has not been any fresh water in the Potomac River for many years.
