road tar and grease

hey u calif guys tow a long ways quit a bit..what do u use to clean the road tar and grease off your boat after a long tow? windex is too much like work :) any suggestions? thanks

A little bit of engine degreaser if it is bad, but follow it up with a coat of wax.

WD40.... cuts thru tar and doesn't hurt paint/gelcoat.

I can not rememeber the name of it right now.
It comes in a clear plastic bottle, the liquid is yellow, and smells like lemon.
I want to say it is called gook remover. hahahaha

I use WD40 and an assistant on the cars, should work the same on a boat!!
I try to get the kids to help, but it's usually me alone!

KEROSENE works very well also!!You hit the nail on the head. Pour a couple of cups into a bucket of warm water and wash you boat. Won't hurt the gel or the paint. Wash it with a car soap after that. You'll have to wax it as the kerosene takes any you had on off. Another tip.... If you have a painted boat, washing it with kerosene once in awhile will do it wonders. It not only takes off wax build up but it keeps the paint rejuvinated in a sense.

Simple Green works well also. Full strength on the bad stuff, diluted for general use.
A friend uses Coleman "white gas" same as kerosene I guess...

I also heard if he stares at it long enough, the tar melts right off the boat. He then scoops it on to a spoon, heats it up and injects it in to his veins. :)
