I've got a BBC 468, tunnel with 2 750's. There is a bugcatcher (facing foward) scope with butterflys that open with linkage. There are 2 flame arrestor air cleaners on the carbs. Is enough air flow getting in ? The arrestors are about 6 inchs in dia. There is a little air flow under the base of the scope also.

I 2nd that. Have you ever had the throttle stick open? If you are worried about air flow you can take the flame arresters apart and remove a layer or 2 of the wire mesh and then silicone it back together.

I run that same scoop, just take the butterflies and everthing that holds them in off and it looks mint. Not into that fake injector look either.

put a real scoop on it if you want good air flow.

Since your question was from an operational concern and not an aesthetic one, I would remove the scoop and replace it with one that will pack air. Also, you mentioned that there is a little airflow under the base of the scoop. You want to try to seal the base as much as possible. You do not want air to escape. Also, I would recommend doing away with the flame arresters. I know that they are for legal purposes but, really, who runs them? It's just more obstruction. If it was a street application, sure. After you make the change, take a plug reading. Make sure that what ever scoop you choose, have a good muff cover made for it. Trailering down the road is where all of the crap is. Any upholstery shop will do it for 10-15 bucks. Good luck.

I second that..I like the look of the bugcatcher, but the butterflies are a joke. Just gut them out of there.
Now for the tech side... If the butterflies are 3" in diameter, then they cover roughly 21.2 sq in of surface.
If you have 2 Holley 750s (1 11/16" butterflies) then your carb butterflies (all 8) cover about 17.9 sq in. Technically, the bugcatcher should not be restrictive...

Thanks for the input. I think I'll take out the butterflys. I got a ticket on the delta (ca) for not having USCG approved flame arrestors under the scoop. It was a fixit ticket so no cost other than money for the arrestors.
