I see some of you guys are running 427's and similar combos, what gives?? you dont need a longer stroke or are you going for big rpms?

I am thinking, an 80 over 429 in a v drive would kick ass, big bore short stroke.

I am running a .60 over 390ci with Edelbrock Intake, Herbert Cam.
It has been fine, but I am certainly used to it and wanting more power now...It is a 454 Chevy or 460 Ford next.

WRONG, it's a 427 block with a 428 crank = 460!..

If it wasen't so expensive, there probably would be 429 Fords out there!..

And it's expensive to run a Ford, because the crank snout is not strong enough to run off the balancer. The guys that used to run Fords had to build them as reverse rotation motors for super stock.

That's right, forgot about that one!..

This is how I feel.
Chevy and Ford are basically the same thing with different names. They all have the same parts and do the same thing. 460's are cheap to fix up, but older Fords are expensive due to less demand. 454 and 460 share the same cheap aftermarket parts category. If I had to choose, I would go 454, just because of how much there is out there in the classifieds/aftermarket, plus I have always been nudged to Chevy by my father.
Just my .02

Never saw a blue (FORD POWERED) turbo Hondo out there! LOL LOL All is good time to reload anyway putting the 396 back in the motor home and assembling a new camless motor for sum redemption!!!!!!!!!!!!!And there will be sum redemption!! :D

Would APBA allow a 429 Ford engine? The crank snout isn't an issue, there are two ways to solve that prob, the Boss 429 has a short thicker snout and the steel crank from the 429 truck engine should handle just about anything one can throw at it. It'd be kinda cool to have a Ford/Chevy rivalry again.

[/QB]You would probably have to talk to APBA about it, I don't think they changed the accepted cubic inches sinse they allowed .060 over 427 which is a 440. A 429 would definitly fit in!. That would be cool to see that again. And you're right, that truck crank is about as stout as you could get!..

Besides, whats so great about watching a bunch of like boats run? Its like watching IRL or CART where ALL the cars are all the same and the only difference is setup and the driver. Boring! NASCAR is getting to be the same, they ain't stock cars anymore. I miss the old NASCAR of the 60s when they really were stock cars.>>>>>>>>>>>>Blown, most of the mid and all the heavy duty trucks [F-450 and up] have steel cranks. Check out the 370 too as it has the same stroke as a 429.

I would guess they would all be the same, check the parts catalog for what used which crank. Being a truck part they are prob. pretty cheap.

I used to run a 426 Hemi in a Super Stock. I don't think there could be anything more expensive to run. You had to have everything custom made. When a rod let go in '79 and put a window in the block, that was the end of that.
