I am not sure exactly what this is made of. My best guess is Aluminum/Titanium. It is 33 3/4" long by 1 3/8". It was on the D'Cucci I tore up a few years ago. It is a little shinny like stainless, but it is very light weight. Anybody ever seen anything like this?

It looks a lot like the Mark Williams axles we had made for my cousins pulling truck.

Well if it was made in an aircraft plant who knows what it is, but I can tell ya it's plenty strong!..

No Craig, Gorgy has made it clear that Daves shaft is much shorter and has less girth. But that is his problem.

No Tony, YOU got it wrong the shaft in the boat is too short. Mine seems to be just fine, although everytime you see it your down on it like a kid on a lollypop.

Solid and non magnetic. It was raced for 10 years and shows no sign of wear.

Hmmmm.........Maybe Monel, although I don't believe this is light weight
material. Is it gundrilled?

This one 4340 about 14 1/2 lbs with safety collar still attached and is around 33" long. Making New one to be ready for the SCSC Thanksgiving weekend for one of the guys! This one Not gun drilled. Gun drilling might save a pound or 2 and reduces the center mass for less twisting.

How about 1.165/1 10 degree Vdrive gears? I think I know someone in the market for some. :mix: They don't want the 15's or the 18's.

Not Possible, Mathematically doesn't compute into making that ratio, but nice try!

Propshaft Material-Ti won't hold up, and it was probably Gun Drilled to death...RIP

Not so. Better get a metallurgy lesson from dad. Tell him I said hello.

Speaking if Casales, I gave this shaft to Tom Label at AME several years ago for his opinion and he took it to Andy. Andy said it had to be manufactured in a very large facility. I suspect it was Northrop Grumman El Segundo CA since the D'Cucci it came from was made when Don was still in Torrance. The drop thru strut is made from the same stuff.

Usually propshaft material is used because it comes the straightest from the factory. Other bars need to much machining or grinding to be as straight.
And it has to be Strong stuff!!!
I'm sorry about the metalurgy, I just know my magnets won't stick to stainless stuff!!!

I beg to differ sir.

Touch a grinder to the end if it gives off white sparks it is prolly 6AL4V
slightly magnetic could be 17-4

I think 6AL4V is the right on the money. The weight is right and it is not magnetic at all. Some research I have done says it is 50% stronger than Stainless. Anyway, one of the SS teams is buying up this and all the remaining parts. We will link up with them Saturday after Thanksgivings at Parker if anyone wants to se it. Thanks Schiada96
