On the way out to Ocotillo Wells on Sunday, I saw an orange sign on eastbound Rte 78, just east of S-2 that said road will be closed Nov 13 to Dec 28. I don't see any planned closures on the Caltrans website.
Anyone know about this? Getting to Ocotillo Wells or through OW to Glamis will be difficult with the narrows closed (if true).

That is going to suck big time if this is true  I hope not! I'm going to try to search a little.

That would not be good..........the alternate route is even tougher.
Hope, if its true, that its just those between 1am and 5am times :220v:

I found this on GD.com but it says the same, saw postings but nothing on CalTrans website. I found the message about today & tomorrow's closures but that's all that is mentioned on the site. We're going to Glamis Friday night through Sunday, if no one has found anything further out I'll let you know what we see. At least it's not for this weekend :D

We'll just have to go S2 to the S22 and through OW or straight to the 86 if this is so. Hopefully we'll find out for sure sooner than later just to know what to expect.

Sorry can't help with this one... Can't find any closures for HWY78, might want to try this 1-800-427-ROAD or 1-800-427-7623 and see what they have to say...

S22 is the turn before the summit on S2 right? Its alright except for the twisty section dropping back down by Borrego :yuk:

That's the one - pretty steep downgrade to Borrego. That still doesn't help the people that want to go to Ocotillo Wells proper - at Split Mtn Road - we would have to go all the way around.

Yep, our friends live at the top of S22 and we've met up and gone that way before, not the best but not the worst. Better than the sometimes on a holiday weekend... lets hope they just don't take their sweet time w/ this!
