What backup programs are you using? Just bought a 160 gig external and now I need to get some b/u software to save my music, pics, documents and settings. So what should I be looking at?

If you have Nero 6 ~ 7 it has a good backup program built in. It will even make restore CDs in the event you really screw up.

I just use the built-in Windows XP backup software. There are plenty of others out there with more features of course (some reviews at PC Magazine can be found at http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1887864,00.asp.
One thing: If you're backing up anything important, don't count on your external drive as your only backup medium. If there's a fire, your computer and the external drive will be gone. Same thing if some thief steals your computer -- they'll most likely steal the external drive was well.
Good luck! :)

Acronis True Image, makes a complete disk image back up. They have a new Version 10 but offer a free Version 7 here. read up & see if its what you need.
They ask that you fill out the info, I did & they sent me a free down load with product key.

if you are just backing up your music and stuff you don't need software.Write a small batch file to do what you want and use windows scheduler to execute. Works great and you will get a good dos refresher on using some commands.

I use an external and take off site. You really don't need any software if you stay on top of your backups and have your directories well organized. You can just drag and drop (copy and paste) in Windows Explorer to the ext. drive. Not a big deal.

handy backup works really well, You can also backup to a ftp server which will store your files offsite just in case of a fire or if someone steals your pc....
