Are the new scat h-beam rods any good? Here are the specs...
Forged 4340 steel
heat treated/magnafluxed
shot peened/stress relieved
weight balances within +/- 1.5 grams
bronze-bushed pin bores
arp 8740 rod bolts
doweled caps for precicion fit
or they have an I-beam rod that is similar but less $$$
just curious to see how well they are....

It is my understanding that Eagle, Scat and CAT's parts all come from the same foundry in China....The main difference is the inspection process (to weed out bad forgings) and the machine work. I think Eagle has the best track record.....

So what are the "BEST" rods to be made? Go all out and get the best man... :crossx:

The Scat H beams rods will work for most applications. I doubt any top fuelers are running them, but they'll work fine. As mentioned, its all in the inspection and machine work once they get in the USA. wHAT do you think we did before all these affordable Chinesestuff was around? We used resized stockers and with fresh "stock" rod bolts they lived, well most of the time. The scat rods are comparable with the other import stuff.......MP

I have never heard anything bad about them, only good. I have a set going in my motor that is being built, so I cannot comment on them personally right now, give me a few more months. :D

My box said Eagle but hey! The builder said they were Scatt. They outlived two sets of pistons and three blocks!! lol Wonder what the life is on them.

Man that's the truth! Instead of buying a new Steel crank in 93 for a 355ci I used a turned down .10 GM Forged crank. Ran great for 117 hours until the crank broke in half. Was lucky and it stayed together and didn't take anything else out. With the new stuff being Xrayed and Magnafluxed this should not happen. I just got a 4340 Eagle crank for my winter build and it seems a quality piece. We'll find out soon how it balances compared to Lunati or Callies. Either way I'm only gonna be pushing 480hp on a crank rated for 1000, so I should be golden.
Depending on the power your planning on making they should work fine. It's all in the build most of the time.

IMO they would be Carrillos or Crowers. But they're a lot more $ than the imported stuff. Argo in Austrailia makes a quality piece too although not well known or popular here in the US, very popular there.

Do NOT run the I beams. If it be eagle, Scat, Cat, Probe, etc. They are inferior. They make a great 350 horse street engine, but do not run them in a big-time engine. They break quite often.
If I am correct, all of the h-beam rods come out of Turkey or somewhere over there. The cranks come out of China.
Get the H-beams.

I have a Scat crank and h-beam rods with the upgraded bolts in my motor. It made 1010hp @6200 on the dyno and has been doing fine all year. No problems... Yet!

I'm running eagle crank and H beam rods with L 19 bolts. 83 passes and still going strong.

i am running lunati i-beams in my car they are rated for over 1000hp. less windage then the h-beam and almost holds as much hp. plus they only weigh 640grams that is pretty light for a built 350.

The K motor I'm starting on will have a Dart Big M block, Eagle 4340 non-twist internally balanced crank, Eagle H-beam rods L19 bolts, SRP pistons with C&A tapered pins and C&A gapless rings, King bearings!.. BTW, it's a 4.00 stroke 4.310 bore, 6.385 rod!..
