Toyota's 2007 FJ Cruiser. I'm tired of driving a truck ALL the time. How about 10,000 miles/yr on this and 10,000 mile/yr on my truck?

The cruiser by itself, or with anybody else driving would not be gay........

I've heard lots of good comments... lots of bad ones.
Toyota has released about 50 units to after-market companies. So it looks like it'll be able to get some mods to make it a bonifide off-roader. TRD is also gonna do a "Moab" version to compete with the Wrangler Rubicon. Perhaps I'll wait to see what they do with that version. I do like the fact that it's a toyota... not a Wrangler or H3. Can you imagine what an H3 will look, sound , and feel like after 100,000 miles?

If you want offroad capability my $$$ is still on a Rubicon. I have an 03 Wrangler with a 4.5" RE lift on 33's and it is amazing where it will go. I heard Jeep is coming out with a 4 door Wrangler for 07 along with a new motor and body.

Gonna be a great offroader but, like many vehicles, it could use more power. I'm sure TRD will offer a blower for it and there will be plenty of aftermarket products for it.
Now a rainbow paint job - that would be gay!

Other than the fact it has IFS... I kinda like it... and it's not retro since I believe Toyota still makes the orginal FJ series for third world markets. Or did until very recently.
Always wanted one of those with the diesel...

I heard the same thing..but heard that the body (grill, doors, dash, etc) and motor are to be the same. Just stretched out some more with 4 doors. Do you know of a site that says different? Thx

Buy one! I bought one of those for commuting the kids to school, have put 25k mi. in last year on it. Can't remember last time I got less than 30mpg with it (almost all freeway with 4 kids and 1 semi-adult, at 70+mph, and a 1500+ ft. elevation climb). Automatic trans easier to live with at freeway speeds......runs about 400 RPM less than 5sp. due to gear ratios. They really need a 6th gear. Mines a automatic.

Yea, They offer quite a few options. 30+ mpg?? I'm tired of filling the Yukon up one to two times a week...

Wow... that doesn't look too easy on the eyes. It's all about taste I suppose. Just read where the 4 door version may get the Hemi V-8. The price of that would likely be way too high for me.

Bad back seat (rarely would I have an adult in the back)
Bad fuel tank range (16-18mpg with a 19 gallon tank)
TBD suspension mods
quirky interior styling
blind spots (it does come with sonar back-up assist as an option)

I saw a picture in Car and Driver a few days ago that had a pic of the 2 door and the body looked more rounded. Says it will have a 205 hp V-6 and the rubicon will come with electronic disconnects to go along with the lockers. I have not seen the 4 door yet.

The people I used to off road with talked about going to South America and picking one up... this has been a few years ago though, but I haven't heard that they quit making them. A couple of the guys had the money to do it, but there wasn't a snow ball's chance in hell of getting it licensed here in the US, so it would end up being an offroad only dealio. They all ended up building buggies.

I thought I wanted the 5sp. also. I test drove both, then asked salesman to let me drive it with my whole family in it........and NOT him. He said "NO, but you can rent one for less than $20 a day right here at this dealership" Most Toyota/Scion dealers rent them also. After 3 days of bombing around in the automatic rental I had to have one. Would buy another in a heart beat for what I use it for.

Doubt they will make anything that compares to the 97 with the stock front an rear Diff locks. Been through 6 Jeeps and an H1. The ole 97 TLC is dam near unstoppable. A real sleeper for those on the trail unaware of it.

Toyota does still make the original fj in Europe (safari) also the v6 model landcruiser and current model landcruiser noway can the average joe get one here original fj that is. Bill Gates no problem, The 2007 fj has plastic flooring instead of carpet upholstered seats the dash is really retro looking with metal painted to match car with modern looking gauges. The two rear doors are suicide style ala tundra access cab. minimal leg room in back seat all said im getting one for the wife....Derek

I looked at them at the Auto show for Audrey and while I like the styling of the outside, the inside is flat ugly, plastic and cheap. It is everything that is wrong with an Avalanche's appearance and twice as much of it.
One look at the interior made us shy away big time. If the interior got changed we would strongly consider it, but I spend all of my time inside the car, not outside.

There's a guy here in Dallas that sells completely rebuilt FJ40s.... The original. I heard they were around $40K.
I bought a new one in 1970 from Burt Chevrolet in Denver, $2,599.00. :D :rollside:

Yep, they dropped the ball by going IFS. No way it will hang with a TJ jeep (Rubicon Etc.). Its a girlie-girl FJ40......bummer. I like the old school FJ's.

Speaking of gay, I drove an H3 and is it me or does this thing not have enough power to get out of it's own way? I used to always drive Tahoes but bought an 06 Honda Pilot a few weeks ago. I drive 45,000 miles per year and the gas just got too expensive to run a V8. The Pilot is a very good vehicle but I would like something that looks better. Not sure the H3 is it but the low Hp. scares me.

The H3 is based on the Chevy Colorado chassis. That's not something I'd ever consider. It's got a 5 cyl engine that makes about 220 hp. The things weighs 4700 pounds. Add it up and you have a dog. GM can't make a decent vehicle unless it's a full sized truck or vette. Toyota can't make a decent full sized truck (for now). The FJ Cruiser is right in Toyota's wheelhouse.
